Leather Dash Repair

I live in OC and the leather on the dash of my '08 is pealing back and I want to get it fixed. Has anyone out there had this fixed, and if so, where?
It seems like this is a common problem with many cars, not only Corvettes.
The hard part of the fix is that the dash has to be removed to replace the leather.

Thanks

Did you end up finding a place to do it? My 2009 has the same issue. I’m thinking of peeling the entire leather off. Any thoughts?

I have had no luck so far. I'm laid up right now. Will start looking in two months.

The other method is to R&R the windshield using a company like Safelite, etc. while its at an upholstery shop. Then its a simple re-glue for them with easy access to the dash.

Try Raul’s auto trim in Ontario.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not getting around now, had both knees replaced.
I'll give them a ring.

Hey Folks,

Just an FYI, I had my dash pad removed and replaced at my local Chevrolet Dealer. Before I went to the dealership, I talked with several custom upholsterers in the area, and none of them wanted to touch it!

I also searched Ebay and other vendors for dash pad pricing.

I ended up paying $3,700 for the entire project, including dash pad, installation, etc.

The pad itself was $2,300.

Though it was a lot of money, it's now done.

I was very pleased with the work done at Cox Chevrolet in Bradenton, FL...

I am not connected with them, just wanted to pass on my experiences so it may help others.

Charlie

Be very careful who you use, just had my zr1 done and there is a spot that didn't even show problematic when it was repaired screwed up. Didn't last a week. Yes it looks much better but that one spot is really bothering me, sucks! We pulled the windshield. Do not us a shop that it's their first one, use a shop that have successfully don't several!

I saw this thread and decided to go look at my car in the garage. Sure enough the batwing is starting to bubble and pull up by the HUD. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't go looking for it but now it's going to bother me. Hopefully it doesn't get worse, the car is out of warranty so I'm SOL

I didn't want the windshield removed so I pulled the dash out of mine a few weeks ago and had a local upholstery shop fix it for $80. It's really not too difficult to pull the dash panel.

I had mine done at Auto Interiors of Mission Viejo. A couple of months into it it still looks great. Like the car above, they have to take everything apart and it looked like a bomb went off in it. All good now. It was about $1500. They seem to do a lot of them, they do all cars, not just Vettes. They all seem to have the same problem.

I don't know what kind of glue they used. Mine was not repaired, they remade a new one.

I'm curious ... what manual did you use or did you find a YouTube showing removal? Also how is the dash holding up so far?

Actually I'm looking at buying a 2014 Convertible red/ black interior with 3LT and the dash is showing signs of separating on the passenger side.

I am replying to your message on the dash. I also have an 08 4LT and live in the OC and having this problem. Did you remedy your problem? I have looked at the Krewal tutorial to remove the dash but it goes beyond what I personally want to do. Any help is appreciated. Rik

Yellow95 10-27-2020 11:52 PM

I had it repaired at Interiors of Mission Viejo. See above.
I you want to see it, We can get together.

Sir what glue did the repair person use.

Being a near universal self doer, I have some experience with fabric glues, preferring 3M, but know that the pros have access to non-commercial products, as it the case with virtually any repair, plumbing, detailing or whatever.

This is a challenging environment, with sun thru the glass. Even if a great glue is used, smoothing the applique requires some skil (experience) and perhaps some special tools. I ALWAYS use a folding dash screen inside all my cars parked in the sun, even if < an hour.
