Dataloggin OBD1 - current free programs?

I broke down and purchased a ALDL cable, with the plan to get TTS Datamaster's program to data log and check things out. From everything I was reading this was the easiest to use program, and lets you do 20 logs for free before needing to buy it. Well looks like TTS Datamaster doesn't support this software anymore, and I realized all the forums I was reading was from 2009-2013.

So, what are people currently using? to data log?

Options I have found so far
Scan9495
https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/com...95-lt1-874306/
tunerpro
http://www.tunerpro.net/downloadApp.htm
winALDL
http://winaldl.joby.se/

but I have no idea if these will work with my car.

Thanks,

I have a 92 also. I'm running tts, but I had a battery issue with my laptop and was worried that I'd lose it so I looked into other options. I have Tunercats and I was reading up on the one on Camaroz28 that you saw. That one sounds about the best of any I've seen so far. I'd investigate that one more.

DataCat

Buy DataCat from TUNER CAT !!!!!!!! Far better than DataMaster and cheap - about $100 but if you bought DataMaster even less - TunerCat credit.

And no hook up problems - I have used both. greg

I'm using TunerPro

I data log with Tunerpro RT. Its free if you wait through the 10 second time at startup. Or $40 to skip the timer and support the author. Tunerpro allows you to monitor just about every bit of data from the eprom ecu so I wouldnt worry about the pricier options. If you go this route I would suggest the gearhead-efi forum for bin and needed definition files.

Im still using Datamaster but same thing as qwiketz. If I unplug the laptop with TTS on it I only have about 20 min until it dies. Makes for some short and sometimes useless datalog runs.

Sounds like TunerPro may be something to look into.

If you are an "engineer" type then TunerPro RT is perfect for you (and you know why - you like to fix things .... lol) . But if you are like me and just want it to work try DataCat ! Besides DataCat connects w/o any issues and stays connected !!! That alone is worth the $ - !!!

I came to say "$100 isnt FREE!!!!", but saw DataCat had a 10 day trial period so tried it out. Yep its great, simple/easy/reliable. Hoping to complete what I need before the trial ends. I will give TunerPro a try, but suspect I will end up just coughing up the money for DataCat.

Is DataCat like TunerCat in the regards of you get to install it on one computer and cannot transfer? I have TunerCat on an ancient HP laptop. I make a point only to fire the laptop up for reflashing the pcm because I know it’s on its last legs so that’s all I use it for. I like what I’m hearing about DataCat but I’m fearful of investing $100 in it and my laptop turning to dust without being able to transfer it.

Moates has a FREE program for OBD1

http://www.moates.net/gmecm/software.html

The catch is that you have to run it with a Windows 95 or 98 start up disk.

I kept an old laptop around just for that reason.

Maldini 03-13-2019 09:22 PM

What sort of cable is required for this? Any recommendations?

Wildride 03-14-2019 10:37 AM

I am guessing that you are referring to my above post re: Moates' free OBD1 program. I built my own adapter/plug using Moates' schematic. At that time (20 years ago) commercial made plugs/adapters were not available. Finding the parts was fairly simple as Radio shack was still in business. That could be a problem today-I don't know! I had to fabricate my own plug. Total cost was under $30 in 1999.

Moates still has a schematic on the web page. If you don't want to build your own there seem to be commercially available adapters.

I still have the car and still use the program.

I got the Moates cable http://www.moates.net/aldu1-and-cabl....html?cPath=64
but since DataCat seems to be the best program I have used so far getting their cable and program would be easy.

What I have learned so far, DataCat does the datalogging/observation of the system, TunerCat can download whats on your ECM and allow you to make changes (if thats something you want to do).

Don't really understand what you mean. It took about 15 minutes to get up and running. Never had a problem.

There are a couple tricks to sizing items when you build a dashboard, but Once you have your dash boards built you can load one and watch the data. The first one I built monitored the idle control circuits, let me see exactly what was going on and verified it was the IACV.

I have the red devil river usb cable and TunerPro RT. I also have a 92 and it works fine. You build dash boards with the parameters you want and then record the data.

Awesome, thanks for the info everyone!

Does anyone know where DataCat shows if the car is in OPEN LOOP or CLOSED LOOP? Most programs I have seen its in the top banner, but I can't seem to find it. I was having high idle even after warmed up, realized someone had just adjusted the throttle stop way up to keep it idling at 1100. Now that is turned down, It doesn't fast idle when cold, so want to see if its readying the temp sensor and acting accordingly or not.

92 LT1 with built 383, so idel is set in the 750-800 range as a baseline.
Thanks

Rexracer77 03-19-2019 09:49 AM

Is this CLOSED mean closed loop? and when its "synchronized" its in open loop?

Within the Engine Data Items tab, select bitwise items to search/display by checking the Bit box. You should find a Closed Loop Active flag that you can select.
