Dry Sump tank question. Keeping older metal top on newer hi-cap tank

I’m swapping my 07 dry sump tank for a high capacity 2013 tank. I’m thinking of replacing the larger tank’s plastic top section with my older metal top section.
Has anyone else done this? They don’t look like they function any differently.

I've done it. The only issue is that the groove and seal is located in the plastic top on the newer tank, but it is on the bottom portion of the older tank. So you are essentially mating together two parts that do not have a groove for a seal. The newer tank that I bought had damage to the plastic top, so I could not use it. I simply used RTV on the mating surfaces of the older top and the newer bottom portion. I drove it all last season and have not had a leak yet. It's also worth noting that the dip stick markings are slightly different between the new and old tanks.

That's really helpful and I missed it.

How different are the dipsticks? The new tank didn't come with its original stick. I have to keep and use the old one.

If you look today, the part number for dipstick for the two tank styles are the same. 12629424 is what is currently listed as the dipstick for both versions of the tank. The difference cannot be very large.

Thanks

Yeah...the difference is small, but I thought it was worth noting. If I think about it, I'll grab a pic of them side by side when I get a chance.

The top dipstick is the original that came with my 2006 Z06 (GM 12599353). The bottom is the one that came with my newer dry sump tank (GM 12629424).

Thank you. that;s exactly what I was hoping to see. I'm currently using a Lingenfelter modified 2008 tank with a 2009+ dipstick. There clearly is a difference, but it isn't huge. I can work with it! Thanks!
