77 Accelerator pump linkage binding W/idle screw

Rebuilt 77 QUADRAJET. Now accelator pump linkage is binding idle screw housing. Iinkage is in 2 nd hole from right on pump lever? Binding occurs when accelerator pedal is depressed.

Your accel pump rod is not assembled correctly to the throttle lever linkage hole.

Here is a correct assembly. Notice how much of the rod is sticking out of the throttle lever towards the outside:

The rod looks like this. The entire locking tang feature must be inserted through the lever hole and lock on the outside. Your tang has not been installed through the hole:

Note tang and the amount of the rod sticking through the lever:

If the tang is not securing and pulling the rod all the way out, the rod will go to the inside and jam against the float bowl casting protrusion for the idle speed screw.

You also don't have any washers under the heads of your carb hold-down bolts, and you're destroying your airhorn casting... metal shavings all over the place. Put some washers under the bolt heads, and don't over-tighten them.

Lars

Lars

thanks for the guidance on accelerator linkage and washers needed for hold down bolts.
