Z06 VS Base differential
Hi all Ihave a friend who is a corvette tech at the dealer and has offered to do a gear swap for me in my Z. He says they setup the same but i know the differentials are infact different but is there anything different about the ools or setu or is the 06 diff just more beefy

do not do a base diff in your z06 it will be alot weaker
|
i understand that. i ahve 3.90 gears i want swapped into my Z. He has setup many base c6 diffs but not a z06 seeing as the gears jus came out. I was asking if the tools and setup procedure is the same for the z
|
The standard diff gears will not work in a Z06 diff, spline counts on the output shaft are not the same. It should be an easy swap, but it isn't. The gears and the right guy to set them up aren't cheap, but boy is it fun. In addition with the 4.10's I still get 24 mpg on the road. The Vette is the best MPG car/truck we own, 2011 Dmax, 2014 Silverado 5.3, 2014 Traverse AWD.

I believe LS7Bud ran a base diff in his C6Z for a while. Now there are gears available for the C6Z diff. I see no reason to go with a base diff,
It is also a misconception that a base diff wont work on a Z. All 6L80 corvettes have a 30 spline output shaft, the same as a C6Z diff. |
Guys....I understand that base gears don't work in a z06 case I also understand the case diff is weaker. What I was asking is that if the actual setup method and parts such as the seals and bearings are different who h may make the setup of a z06 case different.
You see he has setup up many base differentials but since the z06 gears are brand new he has not done one yet so I was asking if there are setup differences that would make the z06 setup harder I did lookup the parts list online today and aside from the gears case and posi unit the seals and bearings look to be the same between a z06 diff and a base diff |
