Driver side ac vent install....
 

Does anyone have a good instruction on how best to install this driver side, lower ac vent on a '68 coupe? Or steps to follow in order? I am assuming you have to install the rectangular end first to the right of the column, then slip the round elbow over the backside of the ball shaped vent on the left side? Also, do the vacuum lines for the headlight and wiper over ride bracket run above or below this vent? Part of the dash harness runs right across the opening. I am trying to crowd it above the vent? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Second try no luck.

If my memory serves me well tonight, I will tell you than you need to disassemble the vacuum switch panel below the steering column, finagle (a professional scientific term, I believe) that duct up into its 'home', then install the rectangular end followed by the round end. Before doing that install, make sure that you have decent seals applied so that you don't lose most of that cold air to the interior dash area. They sell that foam stuff...but it deteriorates rather quickly. I prefer layers of felt strip.

The "correct" installation position is shown in the AIM in the options section for A/C, C60.

On my 73 I have to push in the clutch with my hand to get the round end close to the dash vent. Once the round end is close to it’s mate, I release the clutch and push the rectangular end into position. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for the help. That photo does a nice job of showing what it should look like when its in there right which goes along ways in pointing me in the right direction. [I saved that photo to my "Guidelines Folder"] After a couple more shots at it I dropped the over rides bracket, 'finagled' the piece up in there slipping the rectangular end over its mating part and have the elbow poised but not quite home over the vent. Getting close now. One thing I found is that shining a flash light thru the vent from the outside helps you locate and see the area where the vent connects much better. My biggest struggle has been to get a look at that area and clear it of obstructions (harness, wires) to get access to it. Thanks again to all!

Just for the record, in case someone in the future stumbles onto this post in a search while trying to go thru the same process I will add one photo that shows what the connection looks like for that vent. This area is very hard to see once the dash is in and the wiring is in place. I ran across this photo while reviewing some old pics I had taken in the past. It helped me understand where this thing has to go at least.

I'm finding the same thing. I have to depress the clutch with one hand, hold and twist the vent with another hand, push and guide the vent onto the mating piece with the other hand. :-O

Now have duct homed at both ends and the mounting bracket is lining up with the hole in the steering column mount for the single screw that secures this duct in place. Does anyone know if that is a machine screw or self tapping screw used there? Item 7 in the AIM in this diagram. I do NOT want to Bubba this up and screw up those threads.
