1963 & 1964/65 exhaust bezels
Simple question - does anyone know if the 1963 and 1964/65 exhaust bezels are the same size? I know they are made slightly differently.

64 and 65 are the same 63 are unique to 63 they are smaller. And the rear valance panel is unique to 63 the way it installs in the car, The sides are different.

The 63 bezels while stainless were way smaller than those used on the 64-65 cars. While both were stainless steel the opening for the 63 cars was much smaller.. I've probably got an original set here that I can take some pictures of if needed.
Actually.. I have them on my site. One issue you'll have if you are a 64-65 customer... the imported bezels are flat and do not have the correct tweak to them to fit the rear exhaust panel... There was a company that made them in the US... but they dropped them a few years back... it's another case of the cost of importing parts that are not correct bullying a guy that makes the correct stuff out of the business.... :( 63 bezels. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...111fd14a88.jpg 64-65 bezels... I know it's hard to tell... https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...43b0dfdb0a.jpg |
Thanks for the repsonses.
Next questions: Will the 64/65 bezel fit in a '63 panel? or are they that much bigger than the '63? Do they have the same curve? The reason: I apparently have the '63 repros that are flat that Wilcox mentions. They do not sit well at all. I have a custom 2-1/2" exhaust that does fit the '63 size (barely). If I am going to change them out for something that will fit better, it would be nice to use a slightly larger bezel. Hence the questions. Regards, Jon |
FWIW...We had to reshape the reproduction '64 bezels to fit the stock '64 exhaust panel...I think they are all made a little different...Tough fit either way...!

This my 63 valence off the coupe on the bench - I don't know if the bezel is original but I have no reason to think it isn't:

Wolfman64,
How did you reshape the bezel - the fit looks great! Frankie, From some research, the original '63 were made from flat stock and rolled so that they have a seam (which often cracks). The repros are made from a tube and have no seam. My 63's seem to verify this - one original and one repro. Anyone feel free to correct this or elaborate if I am wrong! Regards, Jon |
If you’re running large exhaust you would probably be better off getting a later exhaust panel, if you’re not worried about originality and just save your 63 exhaust panel. I have seen later panels with the bezels for under $150.

See post #2. Are you then going to move the bonding strips on each of the '63 fenders or modify the ends of the later panel to conform to the '63 bonding strips?

Desertpilgrim,
If I go with the larger bezels, I will probably just modify the openings in my '63 panel as necessary as the panel fits fairly well now, it just needs some fiberglass TLC in places anyhow. Jon |
Guys.. I have to say... those repro imported exhaust bezels to me are junk... they don't have the radius the originals had so they rock when installed... IMHO..
