Good luck to those 2017 owners affected by the recall. Just glad it is not for the 2014 model year.

Holy crap.
It sounds like the steering rack will be replaced. So that means front end alignment also.
Lots of work.

Avanti 03-14-2019 09:08 PM

This happened to me as I was about to leave Kerbeck's with a new '17 in Sept. of that year. Contrary to the article linked to above, there was NO indication of a problem on the dash or otherwise... just no ps.

To Kerbeck's credit, they had an identical '18 they redid the paperwork for so I could still get on the road (1500 mile trip home) in a timely fashion, for the same price. Minus 1 for GM, plus 1 for Kerbeck! :yesnod:

Sounds like its a control board. Why would the steering rack need to be replaced? Different sensor for the board? Or just all one piece?

Looks like it affects 6,259 vettes. How do we check? Call the dealer?

Looking at the service manual instructions they don't do anything to change front camber or caster so all they have to do is reset front toe when the car is back together. Not a big deal as long as you know what the toe was before they started the job.

Yeah in theory.
In practice though, the dealer tech and service department will be blamed for all subsequent alignment related problems.
Imagine you do this job, then set the car up on the alignment rack, and everything is out of whack but you only adjust the toe setting.

Mine is part of the recall, but it seems that so far they don't have any parts so i'll just wait. So far the car is fine.

Well revisit this thread once the repairs are done and let us know what happened. Do they replace the steering rack ? Did they try and get you to pay for the alignment ? Ect … .

Is there a place online to check?

According to this article... https://www.consumerreports.org/car-...ering-problem/
It affects Corvettes manufactured between these dates.

“2017 Chevrolet Corvette coupes manufactured from July 27, 2016 through May 4, 2017”

shineocd 03-14-2019 10:22 PM

Ran my VIN says its not included in the recall.:toetap:

The Successful Plumber 03-14-2019 10:24 PM

Where did you run your VIN?

Where did you come up with that?

GM says the problem stems from defective control boards for the Bosch-supplied electric power-steering system.”

https://my.gm.com/recalls Insert your VIN# and it will show all recalls pertaining to your VIN#.

The last sentence of the article linked in the first post. Its possible the rack does not need to be replaced, but that's not the way it sounds in the article.

The link in post 12 or 16 will work. I tried both and both said no recall for my VIN.

I think I would depend more on the GM recall site https://my.gm.com/recalls as the NHTSA site states my VIN# has 0 recalls, however the GM recall sites states I have 1 ( N172093460 Mechanical Trunk Release May Not Operate ) which is correct.

Ours is a 2017 Z51 A8 made in September 2016 and the GM website shows no recalls or programs on our car.
