'90 Sport Seat Repair
 

For the most part I think I know what needs to be done to make this repair. I can hear a click from the pump when I press the switch, so I am sure it's just the bladder that has disintegrated. My question is simple, can the pump be removed with the seat still installed, or do I need to remove the seat in order to access the nuts from the underside? Seems like the nuts are really recessed in there and hard to access.

I didn't get too deep into it tonight, but hoping to tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

If the issue is the blsdders, why are you taking the pump off?

Sorry, what I meant to say was the diaphragm disintegrated...

Ah, that's fair. In my 92 the bladders had disintegrated, so I wouldn't rule that out.

I'm prepared for that, but hoping for the best.

yes,you will have to remove the seat from the power seat assembly

it is easy - 4 bolts and one wire connector

I did this on my 88 using a piece of rubber from a bicycle inner tube.

I didn't remove the pump from my 88. Just unscrewed the pump head while it was in place.

Can you still get replacement bladders?

I don't think so, everyone had them listed as not in stock or backordered. There is a post in here somewhere about using something else.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and cdm747 for the link to that thread. I have the pump out and pulled it apart... I think the pic speaks for itself.

Since there was nothing left of my diaphragm it's hard to tell exactly what the original was like. Should it be the exact diameter of the housing so there is some resistance when sliding the plunger/diaphragm back and forth, or should there be the slightest of gap around the circumference so it moves somewhat freely? I'm assuming a tighter fit is better.

Its a little bigger than the diameter of the hole, when its srewed to the plunger it deforms a little bit to "pop" in and out.

I used blood pressure cuffs. Cheap and should last a good while.

Well my pump repair went perfectly. I put it all back together, ran the pump for a bit, took it apart to have a look inside, and the diaphragm was still seated properly. My bladders on the other hand have probably bit the dust. I've never seen or felt the lumbar inflate before so I don't know what to expect, but I'm guessing it is quite noticeable/obvious if they are in fact filling with air.

Looks like replacement bladders are out there, or at least the usual sites aren't suggesting they're out of stock or on back order. I may choose to go this route, but can anyone comment on whether or not more of the seat needs to be torn apart to replace? I know those that have replaced with blood pressure cuffs can get away with removing only a few hog rings on the one side, and I may go this route if it is easier.
