Who is running this and why?

Also which Rotella as i hear t6 is the best.

Why i ask? I wouldnt mind trying other oil besides mobile 1, i didnt like royal purple and amsoil along with redline are on the list. Rotella just so happen to pop up upon researching, but no current info being used in c5's these days.

I used Rotella in my diesel pickup and Goldwing years ago. Good oil but it smelled bad.
Right now I use Quaker State synthetic in my 03 vert. Sometimes it's almost half the price of Mobile 1 and meets the Dexos specs..
I also use it in my Chevy pickup and wife's Hyundai.

I know that a lot of guys with older muscle cars run the Rotella, because it USED to have the higher levels of ZDPP, which is important for engines with flat tappet cams, However, to the best of my knowledge, Rotella isn't a synthetic oil, first of all, and secondly, C-5 Corvettes have roller lifters, which means that they don't need as high a level of ZDPP in the oil. Also, I seem to recall that the Rotella is also a higher viscosity than what is called for, in a C-5. Therefore, why would you want to use it??

I use it in my blown z06 due to piss poor results when I test my oil with other off the shelf brands. I also want the 40 weight due to the added heat generated and if its going to sheer it will sheer to a 30 weight. Once I build my motor I will go back to either Amsoil or Driven, current motor only has so many WOT pulls left at this power level lol

Unless you are heavily modified anything off the shelf will work fine. Send it out to be tested if you want to make sure.

I run the Rotella T6 synthetic 5w40 for track use. Full synthetic, good additives package, and I like the 40 weight for the higher track temps.

For a street car, any synthetic 5w30 with a good filter would be fine.

And as mentioned, if you're concerned, or just want to compare, Blackstone labs will do an oil sample analysis for cheap.

its cheap, it's good, it's synthetic and I don't suffer oil breakdown as quickly with it

Oil depends on the engine, if no rollers I use Rotella + ZDD, if rollers any good SYN will work.

:flag: I use T6 in my 2007 classic one ton dually with a 8.1L big block. Truck just turned 65,000 miles. Low for the year but has a fairly hard drive every October from Phoenix to Tullahoma, Tn., pulling over 12,000 pounds behind it. Truck is run eleven hours per day and has numerous climbs during the trip pushing redline, going from sixth gear down to third. Magnetic drain plug installed, never any metal on it when dropped once a year. Minimal oil consumption for a big block, about a quart each way, rest of year less than half a quart. Seems to work very well with the "cool" temps here in Phoenix during the summer months. No problems with the O2 sensors, being that T6 is marketed as a diesel engine oil.
I have a friend who owns a C6 ZO6. He has enough disposable income that no expense is spared on the car. Has a very expensive engine build with an Edlebrock supercharger. The car is very pampered but is driven very aggressively. He only runs T6.

Rotella is great oil. I use it in my dirt bikes, atvs, and tractor. I used to use it in my truck. But for some reason it smells TERRIBLE when it gets hot. I swapped to delvac in my truck and would never consider it in my corvette just because of the smell.

I have had this experience with both the t4 and t6.

It appears that I learned something....I didn't realize that Rotella now was offered in a synthetic formulation. The last time I looked at a jug of it, it was still a conventional oil.

Interesting, i think rotella is out of the question now unless someone can convince me to use it on the ls1

I know it has no relation to a gas engine.

We had a customer that had a e-model cat engine in his road tractor. At 600,000 miles we rolled rod and main bearings in it for him. There was no visual sign of wear on any bearing. None was measured so all I can say is the new and old bearings looked the same for wear. The customer had used nothing but Rotella 15w40 since the first oil change. Engine oil change was ever 10,000 miles.

I run Rotella T6 Synthetic, I like the 40 weight better here in the Phoenix temps. ZDDP is not as high as it was previously, but still higher than Mobil 1. Seems to make the LS lifters run quieter.

Rotella grades:
T4 = conventional
T5 = semi synthetic
T6 = full synthetic

why is their new oil a concern for you? I have no problem running T6 5w40 in my LS6, and I have probably 100k mi on it in vehicles that don't recommend 5w40. Maybe not 100k, but it's pretty significant.

I am actually considering changing my whole fleet to T6 this next round of oil changes. Then I just have 1 brand and weight to buy.

Not much of a concern, just seeking input on user expérience and most are from non corvette application.

Thinking about it theae pasr few days along with amsoil, i think i would like to try rotella t6 now.
Plus i can find it locally and its kinda a big thing for me as im always on the go

You dont need diesel oil for your vette. Run anything you want with a good filter it will last indefinitely

Unless its a high dollar motor I run any oil that has the weight I want meaning cheap stuff & a wix filter. 185k hard miles still sound. Did the mobile 1 thing for the first 60k thought it was a waste and no oil made my lifters louder! lol
(in fact dino oil quiets them down good)Go back and forth between syn and dino depending whats on sale the motor doesnt know the difference. Change it often youll be fine
