Best high performance Intake Manifold?
I autocross my modified C5 and I need/want more power/acceleration in lower second gear. I have been told that installing a new high performance intake manifold may be the answer, What are your thoughts? I have an 04 C5 with a Texas Sport performance cam, stainless headers, Magnaflow exhaust and a K&N cold air intake

The best bang for your buck will be to get a LS6 intake and bolt it right up.

Too bad a truck intake wont fit they make great torque

OP I think your best bet would be one of the smaller Fast intakes and with your cam swap and headers you could take some advantages. Don't expect miracles though and unfortunately you have to pay to play. Buy the time you get that intake installed and a new 90mm throttle body you will be into it for over a thousand bucks. Not counting any tuning that might need to be done. |
You already have an LS6 intake manifold.. So , maybe a fast 92 would be a tiny bit better...
but I think for your application, the LS6 (current) intake manifold is spot on... You should look for power/acceleration in different areas.. Your Current Intake Manifold is not holding you back. Didn't mention if you have Manual or Auto Trans.. Gears, Etc |
I have a TPIS ported LS6 intake for sale with a modified snout for a 90MM LS2 TB.... just saying ha

I run a MSD intake. I don't know a lot about your engine. Mine increased 35 hp with a MSD intake. Do some more research to find the intake that's right for you.
Good luck. |
Rear gears if you really want a noticeable difference.

2003 and 2004 have the LS6

I read (HotRod) that the LSXR makes some additional HP and torque, though not for free:

I would agree - since you already have the LS6 intake, going with a FAST intake would be a step up.

If you are looking at intake manifolds for added lowend torque, you are looking in the wrong place...
The only intake that helps noticeably on the bottomend is the Trail Blazer SS and that is not going to fit in a c5 engine bay without a lot of work. Like others have said, you need/want gears... |
MSD is the best aftermarket intake on the market.

Depends what you call best, needs to be for your application, what is best for someone else, is not best for you.
Reverts back to the old tire question, "what are the best tires" not everyone wants the same tires, maybe the ones they have are amazing for their app, but not so good for others. jmy 2 pennies gl with the search |

Is it really the best? Especially when OP was actually asking for low end-mid range torque, not top end peak hp...

OP - Assuming you had the car tuned already. If so gears may be the best way to get into the powerband you are looking for. More timing will make better low in power but you are on a slippery slope fighting detonation. Also, you may have a cam that designed to bring the power in later in the RPM curve. You can degree that cam to shift the power band a bit but need to be very careful with PTV clearances depending on how much lift and the timing events of the cam. A quick call to TSP should tell you if you have the right cam\right install.
