Are the side front aelerons not street legal?

My dealer is refusing to install the front side wings because he is saying they are only track legal....any feed back on that?

I think technically they obscure the side marker... but I doubt anyone cares or notices.

SPDYC6 03-19-2019 09:56 AM

My dealer installed them without any questions. They even put on the air ducts for the front brakes.

Coughlin Chevy, Pataskala,Oh 6th largest volume Vette sales in US in ‘18 installed mine “no questions asked” in late June . So unless GM has sent out a memorandum since then forbidding it, I can’t figure out why your dealer won’t. The side markers are still partially visable with the virticals on for “starters”..

Because on the plastic pouch (which he sent me a picture of) that contains the parts it says "Race/Track Prep only"
The mechanics won't break the law!:willy:

Quite honestly, I’m now surprised mine were installed... there must quite a few other dealers around who are breaking the rules as well. Thanks for that info.

I actually went to my local police station and asked the police if they were "Illegal".
The officer said that they were part of the car and saw no reason that they would be "Illegal"....Heck, he even told me not to put the front plate on either!

No you didn't !

After all of that they still wouldn't put them on.....after seeing the bag of assembly parts ....now I understand why...too much work.:hide:

They are just being lazy pricks.

range96 03-19-2019 02:24 PM

The driver side doesn't fit as well as the right side. My guess, the mechanic tried to install it, so it's flush with the spoiler, couldn't and gave up. This is the first that I heard the dealer refuse to install it.

Only ZTK optioned coupes get those pieces. They are suppose to be installed during PDI. I don't believe they came in a plastic bag marked to be installed for track only! The only pieces are not to be installed by default are the tunnel venting close out pieces, air deflectors and the plastic brake cooling ducts. Read the owner's manual (starting on page 161) about things you should/need to do for track events. The vertical pieces for the front spoiler is NOT mentioned there (since it is already installed during PDI).

Ask your dealer to call GM for clarification (instead of the police).

Here's the bag.....are you saying that this doesnt apply to the fins?

Rinaldo Catria 03-19-2019 03:48 PM

You do have to wonder if GM started putting that message on the verticle bags midyear... or is it possible a dealer might stretch the truth about something? Never....

Tell them you are going to the track for a HPDE and you want them installed. Then go have fun!

Flybyu2 03-19-2019 05:32 PM

Just bought my ZR 1 last week and dealer installed them no questions asked along with everything else.

PRICELESS :lolg: They block the side markers, NCM won’t install but most dealers will. ............. Going to visit my local cop shop to demo my Akra :auto:

In hindsight that's what I should have said... That was a smart answer!

Ok this was in the bag of bolts brackets and plates....does anyone know what this is and honestly it may have nothing to do with the fins

. Those are track exhaust cooling air deflectors.

c5c6c7 03-19-2019 08:30 PM

What a bunch of clowns at the service dept at my dealership...they never bothered to even look at these parts and assumed they were connected with the side wings..
As Range96 stated above...these parts are completely for the tunnel venting close out kit and has nothing to do with the fins.

Morons.......
