C5 Clutch Return Spring
 

I have read thru several threads regarding putting the C5 spring in place of the stock C6 spring. Most of these threads are older and I am wondering now that some of these have been installed for a number of years, is this still a beneficial and recommended thing to do to improve clutch pedal feel and consistency? Not that I am having any issues but sometimes the "engage" point of the pedal seems to change. I do the ranger method often enough to keep the fluid clear, I am willing to experiment with this to see if I notice any difference.

In my zr1. I took the spring out all together. No issues here.

I changed to the C5. Feel was improved. Less effort and easier to modulate.

Yes sir, it is.

Yes, the C6 is a stronger return spring so the there is not much feel in the pedal, I like the C5 spring because I can feel the clutch engagement better with my foot, the C6 was too muted for my taste.

Take it out completely. Initially the clutch pedal will feel heavier but you very quickly get used to it, feels normal. Gone is the on of light switch, it feels like a real clutch should. I should have done this many years ago. I love it.

My C5 spring broke recently and the clutch got heavier immediately. Putting a C5 back in, got used to the feel. I prefer it over the C6 or nothing like it has now. So does my knee.

The '97 - '03 C5 clutch return spring is part no. 1255-5205. First mod I did to my car when it was new 10yrs ago. It's a little smaller than the C6 spring so the over center action is not as strong. This gives a more linear feel to the clutch and makes the clutch less "snappy" which I personally like, but YMMV. Removing the return spring altogether can cause problems with the clutch master cylinder and clutch operation. Chevrolet put out a TSB on the subject back in the early days of the C6.
