Rev match or no Rev match M7

Let' me start off by saying it's a fantastic car with fantastic manual transmission and clutch, really enjoying it

Love this rev match feature which I can turn on or off at my wish, that's an awesome feature as I did not have in my 18 M3 MT

How do you guys drive with rev match on or off, during regular commute and spirited driving.

Today I was on the freeway and with rev match on I sometime shifted from 7th to 4th instead of 6th , still trying to master the 7th upshift and downshift and engine revved , didn't let out the clutch and keeping close eye on the HUD, so I thought to leave the rev match off in freeway and spirited driving and Leave it on during regular commute in traffic.

Interested to know how you guys drive this beast

IMO on the track it's a must have. It has saved my bacon and is absolutely wonderful. On the street it is simply not necessary. I never use it there. It's in the way.

I’ve grown up driving a manual and consider myself pretty good. However I use rev match all the time. It’s just too good for the sound 👍🏻

Can it cause any engine issues during mis-shift as the engine revs specially during break in period like today I mis shifted from 7th to 4th instead of 6th couple of time and engine revved till 4k rpm so just concerned that I should not cross 3.5K rpm till break in period, I never let off the clutch though and watching closely gear indicator in HUD

Never use it - heel/toe for me

Well yeah, break-in period, I wouldn't screw that much with Rev Match. But after break-in... all bets off.

I find rev match is good when driving through hilly, mountainous roads. That and when on say a highway where there are lots of holes to dodge in and out of.

Never use it on the street when I am just tooling around as I usually shift into neutral instead of down shifting when braking for a traffic light. Track or spirited driving is another matter.

Mine stays in Rev match 100% of the time..fuse is Pulled and I downshift just to hear it sing ;)

Roadrogue 03-22-2019 09:27 PM

Use it always. Why wouldn’t you?

devnull 03-22-2019 09:30 PM

I use it when I feel lazy, but usually like the practice reps heel/toe-ing it since my commute is back roads (mostly). Makes it fun and I don't want to become too used to rev match haha.

It does sound awesome and works amazing though, so sometimes it's just the right thing to do!

Bah, if you can't manually blip the throttle to downshift, you must have learned how to drive a stick using a VW Beetle

I use it most of the time, but the throttle feels much more responsive when it's off so I try to drive with it off when I can.

I say no. Drove standard cars all my life and this one is as good as it gets.

On all the time

not using it is like saying you prefer a rotary phone over a cell phone because that’s how you learned how to make calls

times and technology changes.

Active rev match is amazing tech

but hey - everyone loves looking things up in a card catalog at a library over using Google - right? It’s a more engaging way to get information...

Try both. Pick the one you like. Better yet, switch between them as your heart desires. I love the choices that this car affords. I recently switched from a 'track' display to a 'sport' display just for the heck of it. Because I can.
