GM safety recall N182182760
I received this notice this week regarding the loss of electrical power steering and did a search on the forum about this, but did not get any hits. I assume I am not the only recipient of this letter. Do any of you have any additional information regarding this?

I got this too, mine is a 2017 Z06. Parts aren't available yet. You should get another letter when parts ARE available.

I did not get one for my 2016 Z but did get one on my 2017 Camaro SS. It is nice for them to let you know there is a recall, but hey we have not fix for it. Enjoy your drive!!:eek:

There is a printed circuit board for the input torque sensor that is the problem, manufactured by Bosch. Read that 80% of the issues are on Camaros, I got my letter last week, have had no issues with steering.

Got the same letter twice. I just had mine in to the dealer to fix the recall for the trunk release and to reprogram the seats since neither the seat heater or cooling function worked.
Trunk was never a problem but since the seats were not working and I got the recall on the power steering which has the potential of a life safety issues as compared to the others that are more nuisances I figured I would bite the bullet and take the car in. Results:
Don't get me wrong I love my Vette but GM is not standing behind it's issues such as the bad wheels, overheating issues etc. Such a shame, no way I would ever think of buying a new C-8 with all of the 1st year problems to be expected and no manufacturer track record of backing up fixing their mistakes. |
Kinda weird. I just got off the phone with my dealer and GM customer service, This recall doesn't include my car. 2017 Z06 vert.

My 17' Z06/Z07 was one of those steering issue cars, that was the first major steering issue that showed up on these cars, you would be driving along and lose all power steering, you still had steering, just zero power. There were several dozen cars involved in the recall, they next day aired a new Bosch steering rack, and the car was fine. It seems there were a crushed connector that happened in manufacturing that caused all the issues, after seeing it you could not believe it worked at all. :).

My power steering went out in my car in the middle of a transition from one turn to another on the track. Wasn't that big of a deal, just a mild inconvenience. Steering still works, you just lose the power assist. At speeds, the power assist is negligible anyways. Said something like "Service Power Steering --- Drive With Care". Mine may have been heat related since the dealership rigged an air vent to blow onto the power steering unit as the fix.
I guess the point of my reply is that my power steering went out on the track and I'm fine. It sucks these problems are around but don't let them keep you from driving your car. |
:lurk: no notice sent for my 2017 2lz m7. These cars are overly complex. Very concerning especially when warranty is over.

I received my 2nd letter about the recall for the power steering stating that the part is now available. The recall is N182182760. I plan to call the dealer tomorrow.

I received the same notice about my 2017 on Tuesday. Don't know if this is serious enough to allow the incompetent mechanics at the dealership start tearing apart the steering column. My experience is that everything they touch they make something else worse.
Please let me know your experience if you get the recall work performed. Thanks |
I too got the second letter - I called the dealer and they sounded bewildered - then said they wanted me to bring the car in for evaluation to see if it "needs" anything - then if so they would order parts - ???? I'm now in the same mindset as @Bud Coogan -- why let them tear my car apart if I don't have to
