Everyone acts like bc its newer that means its better.

not so!
1987 buick regal grand national vs 2018 Buick regal GS (and it has awd)

😂

an ecoboost f 150 would probably beat an 87 buick grand national also.. just about every vehicle made now days stomps all over any older stock cars. that's called technology

Patsgarage 04-05-2019 09:09 PM

1987 GN curb weight -3,600 #s.
2018 Regal GS curb weight - 4,300 #s.
All that new technology weighs a lot.

Sure we can, we just don’t. In all seriousness the 87 grand national and current regal gs have absolutely nothing in common except the name. They’re both cool cars in there own right but not really worth comparing in my opinion. My buddy has a 17 regal gs with a 6 spd manual and it makes a great daily driver. Comfortable, all the new gadgets and technology, and being one of the rare cars still available with a manual makes for a more engaging driving experience.

wow, that is cool.

you couldnt say that about the 87

I don't know much about the new one, but is it a sporty car? The 80's was.

I imagine cars manufactures are in bed with aftermarket companies or own them and the cars today are built to fit in the aftermarket space.

You might be thinking of Oldsmobile, GM never stopped making Buicks.

hate to sound like a forum cop, but I thought this is supposed to be a C4 forum - surprised the mods haven't moved this to "off topic/other cars" - :seeya

Quit wasting time and go build your C4R.

BTW, the old Buick was a POS as is the new one.

Sounds like somebody around here has gotten his ass handed to him by an old turbo Buick and is salty. BTW those old Buicks are worth more than just about any C4, including ZR-1s. Not bad for a POS.

Comparing the new GS to the late 90's/early 2000 GS may be a closer apples to apples comparison.
I had no idea they put a manual in the new GS though. Hmm, might have to look into that.

Aside from that, that 3.8 V6 w/ turbo was listed as one of the top 10 GM engines of all time. They were amazing motors...still are! (The GN club often is scheduled to race at Beach Bend (Bowling Green) 'bout the same time as the C4 gathering. Between them and the diesel truck clubs, getting s race slot has been a headache for the last dozen or so years, IIRC.

Those were the same as driving a monte carlo with a couch when they were new...that was 80s quality it wasnt all that horrible.

Very few mods made them a street terror, nobody wanted to mess with a black Regal I can tell you that.

13.9 for The GN, has me running scared. But since I don’t even give a crap about knuckle dragging quarter mile Racing, so what. Maybe I consider it a POS because of the 80’s build quality from GM, or the fact it is a hideous looking car.

no, trust me i respect the turbo buicks.

i dont respect newer cars bc usually the owners think bc their car is newer that its automatically better/faster (and it doesnt occur to them the older car could be modd).

thats the point of this post !
