Polishing Speed ?

I'll be polishing with Menzerna 3800, a Porter Cable 7424, and a finishing pad. What speed should I use?

Thanks..

When compounding my hard clear coat with my 7424XP, I had to crank up the speed all the way with microfiber and orange cutting pads to get decent results. The PC doesn't have a lot of gusto. I slowed it down to the 4 or 5 speed when using a finer polish and softer polishing pads. I am guessing the 4 or 5 speed will work for you if you are just doing some finishing work, but it depends on your pad choice and your hand speed and pressure, I suppose. As always, start with the least aggressive approach first on a test area and see what results you can achieve.

I saved this guide from Meguiars, I think the Meguiars G110 and the Porter Cable 7424 may be the same unit or very close.

I used Menzerna 3800 in my shop and 4.5 works, with a final pass on a medium 3. That particular polish likes to be finished off with a light/slower final pass. So you use 4.5 with medium pressure going over the area 3 times, then a final pass very lightly with the speed on a medium 3. The 3 times at 4.5 is vertical, then horizontal. them angular with the final pass being a very light vertical.

Did this for my black car last weekend. M105 on 6 and 205 on 5. With the curves of the car and the DA sometimes stalling a little that seemed to add the power to get it done well.

As said I started with 5 and it felt fine and in control so ramped up. Orange pad w 105, black w 205.

EDIT: This was w the HF DA polisher so just as a reference
