new PB 9.1@156

Went to TX2K and aired out the new setup. It's a 5.7L, built 4L60, with twin 76mm set at 22psi. Sprayed a little N2O to help spool. It was pushing some water so we stopped there, but got some data and new ideas to improve on. Even drove home 260 miles afterwards!

Nice trap speed, 8’s on the way !

JoeyG 04-08-2019 06:12 AM

Wow good first outting

C5 Pete 04-08-2019 09:45 AM

Cool deal sir!

What heads and head gaskets are you using? Studs or OEM head bolts?

algZO6 04-08-2019 10:53 AM

Hell yea buddy!!!!!!

Chris Stewart 04-08-2019 07:05 PM

Thanks guys! Capthuff the heads are Edelbrock/LPE CNC 61969. I believe they have 205cc runners, with ARP studs and regular LS1 MLS gaskets. I was thinking about trying some LS9 gaskets, but not sure how much this motor combo has left to give. It also has a stock crank and Compstar rods rated at like 600hp lol. Might need to move up to an LSX 6 bolt combo that can breathe better.

silver408z 04-08-2019 10:55 PM

Grats! That's moving!

that turbo and intercooler is just the bomb

6 bolt heads and a nice strong short block will take care of that issue

I've seen some good deals on LSX blocks but here is what I'm doing

5.3 alum block, 6 bolt tabs added like the ERL blocks (block is free)

stock ls1 stroke forged crank (stocker is pretty strong though!!)

forged wiseco or diamond pistons and decent rods and you should be good to 1500+

more than that, you better think about back halfing the car

the stock blocks are really nice and with the right setup, a 6 bolt version should be plenty strong

looking for companies that can "add the tabs" to a stock block and do it right!

I have new lunati 4.0 forged crank and h beam rods, but with this block I'd like to stay stock stroke

comments???

the lsx goes for around 2300 and some of the vendor short blocks are around 6500 with good internals

it's still a very expensive build any way you slice it!!

I have the same heads and studs but I have 6.0 iron block. I used ls9 and I'm around 25.lbs boost with stock crank also. I had samels1 MLS gaskets as u and they where pissing at 22lbs also.

Very nice pass!! Congrats!

Chris Stewart 04-09-2019 08:49 PM

Thanks again guys! Tempting to slap on some LS9 gaskets and try again. The last pass we learned a better launch method that will pull the wheels. All this time I've used the footbrake as high as it can go, about 3K. By accident I did a dry hop in the lanes, about 2000rpm with nitrous on. It actually pulled the wheels up, and didn't realize it until my son told me afterwards lol. Should be an 8.9 launching like that, assuming it goes straight.

Very nice pass and setup Chris congrats.
What alternator/bracket are you running?

BLOWNBLUEZ06@RKT Performance 04-17-2019 08:55 AM

So bad ass.

Chris Stewart 04-20-2019 10:36 AM

Thanks yall, and venom it has a Honda alternator that's mounted in the a/c location with a custom bracket.

stevieturbo 04-20-2019 05:33 PM

Some 625's and LS9 gaskets would do no harm.

Last year when I blew my TFS head apart, I went back to my old A&A WCCH Edelbrocks. My car always did run great with them too. Mine were the 215cc CNC'd ones.

Yeah I emailed couple of times about this before and I went with the A/C compressor bracket and JEEP Ranger Alternator like you advised but I'm only seeing 12 - 12.5 volts.
I may go with the Honda route like you Which model and year Honda? Are you seeing 13+ volts?

Do you think a custom bracket and be made again like yours?

That sounds like a solid plan. The next motor will get some upgrades for more clamping force. Hopefully some cubic inches that start with a 4 as well.

I originally had the Ford 3G style alternator, but broke the case. Probably because of the way I mounted it, with no bottom bolt. The shop replaced it with a Honda style, but I have no idea what specs. It's smaller and performs pretty well. Cold startup shows 13.8v. Once it's warmed up and both fans running, it idles at 12.3v and during a WOT pass it goes down to 11.7v. The tuner has worked around it and doesn't seem to cause any issues. You'd have to call Turbo Tech to see if they'd make another. Probably not easy to do without a car torn apart to build on. Sounds like yours is doing as good as mine anyway.

That's awesome Chris! Especially the drive home!

I know there are some people who push a lot more power through 4 bolt heads, but I kind of gave up on that after replacing head gaskets twice and upgrading the studs. With LSx platform 6 bolt is the way to go, especially with the power your going to be able to make.

FourG63 97GST 04-26-2019 02:21 AM

beautiful, what kind of IATs are seeing on the big end?
curious what people in that power range are seeing

Chris Stewart 04-26-2019 09:31 AM

Thanks, it's got a 7 gallon A2W and with only 1 bag of ice, the IAT went from 85-115 degrees. The previous run I forgot to turn on the water pump. The IAT was still only 95-145 and went 9.2@155.
