Do You remember "That Car"?
 

Hi Everyone,

Do you remember "that car"? The one you sold and wish you had never done that. That car that created an indelible memory, and one you would just love to see again? For me it was my 2000 Millennium Yellow Convertible I called "Tweety", In an act of utter stupidity back in late 2004 I sold this car to allow me to jump up to the C6. Now there was nothing wrong with my first C6 coupe (Daytona Sunset Orange), it was a great car and I had a ton of fun with it. In fact I went on to replace that with a 2011 Grand Sport Convertible in Super Sonic Blue that I still have today. Needless to say I learned my lesson in selling my beloved 2000 Convertible, and my GrandSport will stay in the family for a very long time.

I have heard some folks say they have seen "Tweety" around Enumclaw and Black Diamond area, but I have not seen it since the day I signed the selling papers. I am just curious to know its current status. Is it still running strong? Is it still in the area? Is the current owner still having as much fun with it as I did?

If you own this car now or know of someone who currently does - I would love to see it again. I have included a few photos below. You could not missed it over other Yellow Corvettes of that time frame. It had a very distinctive pin stripe job that was done by one of the best in the industry, and had some customer Yellow interior components that I had made for it, include some minimal chrome accents under the hood. I have included some photos below.

Beautiful yellow C5, Dave. I miss millennium Yellow. When I started considering a new Corvette as my retirement drew near, this was the color I wanted. On a coupe though since we planned to use the car for road trips.

It took me a few years of shopping around and when the C6 came out, I knew it was the car I wanted. "My Car", if you will since we still own ourVictory Red 2007 coupe. It's been a wonderful car and we've used it for a lot of trips.

But, for me, "That Car" turned out to be the car I traded for the C6. Not traded in, but traded for my C6 is pictured below. This was my last Porsche, one of 822 built, this one was #773. This car despite owning it for years was quite possibly the worst car ever in terms of the road trips we had planned to take. Not much room, an emergency manual top only, a small windshield which cost $5K to replace, etc etc.

I loved that car, but since I could get a more usable new Corvette for virtunally free.. why not?

My only regret is that these Speedsters are bringing big money at the auctions now. Figure $200K to $350K. So what, my C6 gets better mileage, holds more luggage, and doesn't leak water and I no longer have to play "20 Questions" whenever I stopped for gas.

Maybe not the best decision I ever made to trade it for a Corvette, but I still have the Corvette and enjoy it a lot. At least I no longer have to worry about getting a rock chip in that $5000 windshield.

Just sayin' Sorry to seem like I'm showing off, but this for me is "that car".

Sounds like you had everything on that car but the Z28 badge which was the first year for that. I only saw one back in the day as they were scarce, at least around here.

Yeah the 1967 Z28 was pretty rare. In fact we did see any around until the 1968 came out and that was after the Z28 started winning SCAA races. The primary difference between my car and the Z28 was the engine size. Z28 was a 302 hybrid designed to meet the SCAA 305ci limit. It had a higher lift solid cam, a hi rise manifold and a 800cfm doublepumper.
I bought a Z28 cam from the dealer, added the Tarantula TM-1 manifold, reworked the heads including screw in studs, added a 750cfm doublepumper, reworked the distributor advance curve and springs, and swapped the 3.73 rear to a 4.10. Hooker headers with thrush pipes, Lakewood traction bars and bellhousing, Super T10 trans (aftermarket version), Sheiffer 11inch rev lock clutch with Corvette 10 1/2" disc and some Mickey Thompson street slicks. Yes...it was fast and got me in trouble. Still wonder if I could found another way to finish school.

Mine would be my 69 Chevelle SS. 396, 4 Speed, 411 Possi.
I had it about three months and was out screwing around and slid through a stop sign @ 40 mph and t-boned another car. I didn't have the means to fix it so I sold it.:cry

Kept all the Chevrolet’s I have purchased. Sold all the Fords. No regrets.

Interesting? Not sure how many Chevys you've had but why did you get rid of the Fords?

Ok. You got me thinking about my 40 ford coupe with a 413 Chrysler wedge and a 727 torque flight push button trans. That would be the one that got away.
Was a Mustang guy for years, but got tired of the poor handling of unibody cars. Most Fords are rear steer cars. By that I mean the tie rods connect at the rear of the wheel. This makes the cars unstable at hi speeds. All Chevrolet’s are front steer. Connects tie rods at the front of the wheel and more stable at hi speed. Better fit for a Leadfoot like me.

Thanks for the reply. Being an old guy I was curious to see if I'd get a reply something like, "Well my dad always drove Chevys or some such traditional theme. Even so Your rationale still surprises me a little. Far be it for me to tell in I'm behind the wheel of a front to rear steer type of car.

Now, 40 Fords are an icon of my generation and I nearly traded my '62 Corvair for a nice convertible '40 with a small block chevy. My dad talked me out of it. It was amazing back in the day when many of looking forward to getting our first cars assumed that if you saved enough money, you could afford the car. Assuming I guess the car would never need gas, oil changes, tires and soon. Jeez, a 40 Ford. I've long been a lead sled 50 Mercury kind of guy, though never found the means to own one. First thing I planned to do was chop the top and paint it - heliotrope purple. YES!!!

Hell, I couldn't even afford those little blue dots that the cool guys stuck on their taillight lenses. Made the brake lights seem purpalish.

Now that I have the means, presumably, to get that lead sled Mercury I'm looking for a reasonably priced retirement home.

Should have got a longer paper route I guess. My parents told me they had read somewhere that students with a car typically got poor grades. Boy, did I prove him wrong. I never did get my dream Merc, but I did get poor grades. Wonder if I was subconsciously trying to prove my point.

Ahhhj, the gold old days.

Well, I still have my C6, but I really miss.
