Question for A-6 owners.
Driving season is finally here in these parts and the ol "Auto cable falling apart" paranoia is kicking in. I realize that it's not necessarily the miles, but the age and heat cycles also. But I am just wondering how many owners of lets say 2010 and earlier C-6's are still on their org. cable and how many miles are on the car ? Are there any older and/or any relatively high mileage C-6's still on the org. cable ? Thanks

I have an 07 with 35,000 miles and replaced it last year at the dealer. I did it just as preventive maintenance. They told me the plastic but was still in one piece.

08 with 40K, I have a package of bushings in the glove box and plan on doing mine when the weather warms up.

Mine went out 2 years ago on my 07. Around 150,000 miles I think. Replaced the whole cable and had the transmission serviced at local transmission shop. Now at 214,000 miles and has a smooth shift.

I'm at 156K miles with the original cable. Original owner since Nov '07 and living where dry heat kills plastics.

2007 with 40k and still original. This is definitely on my mind to take care of - just haven’t yet.

09 72k miles, cable was doing fine with no issue but when I had it in for tranny service, filter and oil I had them replace cable while they where in there. Best 46 bucks I spent (OEM cable).

2011 both ends failed. Rear after the fuel pump replacement and the front at 95k miles. The fuel pump requires the the trans to be lowered to get the tank out and the plastic is unforgiving.

08 with 46k... On Corvette club cruise and stopped on the way home to take a ceremonial lizard bleed and no shifty when I returned. $150 for a flat bed to the dealer and anothet $400 to retive it from the dealer.

I have the replacement bushings, and was supposed to replace them over the hibernation period, but didn't get around to it. I live in a colder climate, so I'm thinking that may get me a few more miles on the original cable and bushings... Having said all that, it will likely fail on my first road trip at the end of the month.

Oh great, now I have to worry about this cropping up in the future along with the harmonic balancer. What else ? :ack:

Never heard about the "Auto Cable", apparently from sifter to trans?

Windy: I had my buddy change the entire cable (OEM $50-ish) two years ago; car had about 30k miles on it. The old cable ends were not cracked and didn't look too bad.
I had him snap off the locking pawl while he was in there too. So I don't worry about either of those issues any more, and the new cable will likely outlast me. http://i65.tinypic.com/30kfvpu.jpg Attachment 48331950 |
My 07 has 13k miles, and is still on the original cable. I purchased replacement bushings thinking that I would change them as preventive maintenance, but simply haven't completed that task yet.....

I have an '08 with 40,000. Been carrying a spare cable around for two years. I think this year is the year I will get it done. Plan to hire it done, although others have said it's doable.

cost to have cable replaced i saw 46 n 400 bucks big difference
