panel bond adhesive recommendations
So I caught the corner of my hood on a cross brace under a carport and knocked it off.(after inspecting it, it had been broken before and I had never noticed the repair) I need some kind of epoxy to put it back together. My google/amazon search for smc epoxy comes up with almost exclusively 50ish dollar tubes that require another 40ish dollar guns to use. Anyway around this? Im not gonna need much, something like 2 jb weld type tubes should work just fine, but no clue if that would work for smc. Anyway Im sure someone else has come across this and can show me the way, Thanks

If a chunk has been broken off the SMC I've used Bondo Hair with good success at repairing a small section on the RFF of my '88 Vette.

I agree with 65Z01, or use 3M 8115 you can also mix in cut fiber glass for better strength.

Thanks for the tips guys. Think im gonna try some jb weld plastic bond, then grind out the cracks a little bit and go over it with some kitty hair. Might throw some mesh on the underside to. Ill let ya know how it goes. The plastic bond says its works with fiberglass and plastic and thats pretty much what smc is, so I think it should work

personally id do it right. i used evercoat 100836 for smc and fiberglass. here was my repair: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ched-pics.html
my repair is as new for integrity. DUB might be of help if you reach out to him and include some pictures. Personally i would rethink your plan of jb weld and plastic bond. good luck. |
West Marine kit I had to repair large hole right floor. SMC is common in marine applications.

3M 8115 works good @ $40. Need mixing gun @$60. get more mixing tubes.
It worked good for me. I used it on a door repair and bumpers. |
