Best way to ship wheels?

I'm sure that quite a few of us have done this. Not looking for specific prices as that's dependent on distance. But overall anyone who has done the "homework" what's the least expensive way to ship boxed rims only (no tires).

I've had them shipped via Fastenal before and it turned out well. I don't know if you have a store convenient to you. I've only picked up at fastenal haven't done the sending side before but the sellers I worked with said it was easy.

See if a local Tire Rack/Tire Discounters/Discount Tire place has left over boxes of wheels that delivered to the store.

May have to ship them individually. Combining wheels may be costly due to the resulting size of one box (two wheels).

When I bought new wheels from Tire Rack they came in two large boxes. Each large box contained two wheels each in their own box.

I’ve personally had good luck with UPS. They’re running a 40% off shipping with promo code Easy. I have no idea how long it’ll last though.
Wrap them in styrofoam (can get on Amazon super cheap) and then Saran Wrap them and finally box them.

I have used a double wall corrugated boxes with ridged 1/2" sheet Styrofoam panels on the sides top and bottom. Say its a 17 x 9.5" front C5 Z06 rim, the box size I would use would be 18" x 18" x 12". I have bought them on line from folks like Uline before - here is an example and yes that is way more than you need for a set of rims.

You can also search on line and may find something like this that can be cut down to the height that you need, like this

You can check with your local UPS or FedEx store to see what sizes they have. I typical ship them FedEx, but I have also use UPS as well.

I can tell you what not to do. Don't drop off at UPS store or FEDEX store. They smile and knock your head off.

Greyhound. Done wheels with them. Done a c5z exhaust with them. They aren't the fastest way to go, but I've got the best prices from them on largish bulk items.

I signed up for a FedEx account, was very easy to do. Prices are lower than standard retail. Shipped a set from Florida to Oklahoma for about $150, and they picked them up at my home.

I had heard this many times, but my experience with Greyhound was just the opposite. They were far more expensive than UPS or FedEx. Also required you to go to the bus station and pick the item up, and as Sox-Fan mentioned it took much longer.

I purchased new boxes directly from tire rack. Came with packing material and received in two days. Cost was less than expected. Forgot price.

You bet. I found Fedex ground with a discount I have the easiest and cheapest. I did not compare with Greyhound bc of timing bc more logistics for me. .
