Oil Pan Gasket--Drop exhaust ????????????
I need to change my pan gasket. Looking in the Service Manual it says to drop the cross-over exhaust from the manifolds. My experiences with exhaust manifolds, donut gaskets, heat risers and rusted bolts, back in the 60's, has made me very paranoid with that part of the exhaust. My last 300 HP 62 came to me with a corner of one manifold broken off, so it happens. I wondered if it wouldn't be easier to just undo the clamps and slide the crossover pieces apart?

IIRC, the stock set up didn't have clamps and anything to slide apart. You probably have something custom, so do whatever looks like will work. Clamps and slidign apart usually doesn't work, even if you do have it.

Thanks Doug,
I'll do a trial and see......maybe dropping from the manifolds is the way to go. The only issue is the crossover pipe. BH |
