Squeaky Targa Top
I've just graduated from a C5 convertible to a 2007 C6 Coupe. Wife and I are loving the car except for a Squeaky Targa Top. I took the top off and re-latched it, seemed to cure it for a few miles but it went back to squeaking.
Does anyone have a more permanent solution for this problem? |
GM makes a lube for the pins and you can get a bottle of gasket revitalizer. I think mine is made by 303.

I use nextzette Gummi Pflege Stift 3.38 oz bottle with applicator on my seals and gaskets . got it on Amazon. also added the o rings on the pins got them at Ace is the place hardware 79 cents each no more squeaks and rattles

I have a small tube of Krytox - it's not cheap but lasts forever. Not sure this is your issue but it does keep the seals lubed.

Thanks to all who have replied, this gives me a place to start.

I read this in another thread so not my idea but........
I have done all the recommended things to stop the rattle but while driving yesterday mine was rattling at the front driver side latch. While driving the car I released that latch for a few seconds, then latched it back down. Instantly rattle was gone, not really sure why. I do not have the C-clips on my rollers but probably will do that next. |
You need to put a little bit of silicone grease on the part of the latch that physically engages the steal metal insert on the frame of the windshield. That is the main part that squeaks. Some silicone grease on the pegs can also help.

if you search You Tube there is a very nice detailed vid on that topic.
As I said I applied the lube per the video instructions. The video also suggested that you check the torque on the guide pins (one of mine was loose), and you lubricate the pins and the latch contact points with dielectric grease. So far my squeaks are gone, makes the car a lot nicer to drive. The video suggest you do this service once a year. That $62.00 bottle of lube should last a few years. Thanks again to everyone who responded. |
1. tighten the fasteners on the top with deep 15mm socket.
2. attach o rings on the fasteners to function as grommets 3. attach e clips in rollers 4. lube with vaseline or grease test drive, if persists, repeat step 1 until fixed. (don't break the top by over tightening) Search the forum for details. |
