1965 Aftermarket Power steering
Looking for some guidance on aftermarket under dash power steering bolt on units for a 1965.
Big block engine with heavy duty suspension makes turning the wheel almost impossible if standing still. Anyone out there have some experience with any under dash bolt on units? Thanks |
Borgeson makes a nice bolt-on kit. There are also several rack and pinion kits out there which are also bolt-on.
Ive done both and prefer the feel of the Borgeson. |
I think he is talking about EPS.
I don’t have first hand experience, but I have a friend who installed the American Powertrain system and loves it. It replaced the stock steering column and has an adjustment so you can tune it. It also senses how much pressure you are putting on the wheel in any given situation and automatically compensates by adding or subtracting turning torque. Almost sounds too good to be true! If you do it, please create a detailed installation thread. |
If you search here you'll find some C1's that have done the EPS conversion. I don't recall if it was under dash or in the engine compartment.

On a 65 the borgeson isn't exactly bolt on. You also have to cut the steering call him.
