Crashed my Z06

I totaled my C7 Z06 on March 31st. Thankfully I was able to walk away with just scratches on my hand from the airbag, even though the car was totaled. It actually worked out, because the insurance company paid out more than I originally paid for the car in Nov 2017, and probably $10k more than I could get if I sold it right now considering how cheap new Z06 are at the dealer.

Oh well, now i gotta wait for the C8 to come out and try to convince my wife to let me do track days again :-)

sad, im sorry

DaveTheWav3 04-17-2019 07:35 PM

The error was just too much throttle too early in the turn (almost full throttle at the apex) and running in Race Mode, all the electronic nannies were off. So I learned 2 things:

1. I'm not good enough to run in Race mode
2. I need to roll onto the throttle more gently AFTER the apex of the turn

Mikec7z 04-17-2019 07:37 PM

theres a lot of different modes that are track mode, Bill knows them all by heart, i run in track mode and still have traction control.

Mikec7z 04-17-2019 07:38 PM

air bag went off i assume?

I usually run in Sport 1, but this time I decided to go with Race. That was a mistake

Yes

part out the car or sell it salvage or fix it? Did you have a loan on it still?

The insurance company ruled it a total loss and paid $69k. That's more than I could have gotten for my 2016 Z06 with 12k miles, even if it were in perfect condition. I'm pretty happy with that

im not going to lie, i would delete this thread until your ins pays you out... what company do you have that allows for race track use?

dont write it here, PM me...

your luck, an employee of that ins company is a member here and sees the wreck and they deny your claim since you were in a track.

I already got the check and deposited it. Its all done. The insurance company has specific exclusions, but I wasnt involved in anything that was excluded, so they were fine with it. Just in case, i waited until i got the check before posting though. Didn't want to get into a fight with the insurance company

Mikec7z 04-17-2019 07:45 PM

wow, great to know... i had no idea a normal insurance company would cover track days like that.

Tomorrow 84 corvette owners call _____ and switch lol :)

Ouch. So sorry dude. These cars are very powerful. Makes you appreciate all the electronic nannies put into this car to save you if needed to be saved. Unfortunately even with everything on, i can still kick the tail out. Pretty scary if you ask me.

Good luck moving foward. And yes i think the C8 would be easier to manage given the layout and better/more technology.

Those are the specific exclusions for track use. HPDE days are generally covered, but you have to avoid using words like RACING (especially since youre not racing anyone) when you file the claim.

Then they will probably stop insuring car's on the track....

Mikec7z 04-17-2019 07:52 PM

i feel like its definitely a speed activity lol but im not telling them that.

You dodged a bullet big time.

carcrazysammy 04-17-2019 07:52 PM

Damn, sorry to see this. I bought a C5 Zo6 for a dedicated track car. Glad your insurance paid out.

Mikec7z 04-17-2019 07:53 PM

ive always figured i would have to call a tow truck and have them come immediately and take me away from there asap lol

I posted an excerpt. But the key was describing the incident with the right words, without lying. "I was involved in an accident at the Driving School located at Pacific Raceways." They never really dug any deeper after that, just wanted details about the damage
