No power Please Help
 

OK So I started my 1975 it was running. Car shut off no power whatsoever. Noticed some smoke from under hood. Opened the hood and noticed the alternator power bolt had come completley out and was touching the alernator. We replaced the alternator and still nothing. The battery has charge and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas for me?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My best guess is you burned a fusible link.
I think there is a fusible link in the alternator harness about 2 feet from the alternator.
You will need a test light, maybe a wiring diagram, and some patience.
Also helps to know a little about electricity and how to read a wiring diagram.
There is a post here under c3 that offers free diagrams.
I think Willcox has some tech info on their website.

Could you describe what the fusible link looks like?

It is a special type of wire that will melt or break (a circuit) if there is a short. NAPA sells fusible link wire that you can cut out the part that is burnt/broken and solder in the new fusible link wire. You will need to know the wire gauge size for the correct replacement. I believe the size may be found in the Chevrolet Service Manual for your specific year. Maybe you could get help from a friend with electrical/ electronics background.

Corvettes have to be pre flight and on the way back turned around

The free internet schematic will not help in your case as it does not show the location of the fusible links, you will need a GM 1975 Service Manual.

Buy a fuse holder and a fuse. Fusible links were a bad idea.

Fusible links are GREAT for protecting the things for which they were intended. Same with fuses. Same with circuit breakers. But, if you think that they are all "interchangeable", you don't really understand any of them or when & where they should be used.

All 3 go to open circuit with too high an amp flow. All 3 pass current with little to no resistance until that threshold is met. There are no fuses or fusible links in aircraft. Just breakers. They stopped using fusible links in cars. And most car manufacturers never used them.
