Me and my dad got his 68 vette out of the garage. It has been sitting for 24 years now and I am so excited to start this project. Does anyone have some tips on how to clean the vinyl roof?

I'd start with a soft bristle brush. She's sitting awfully high.

Should be a fun project.

Soap and water to start. Do not use anything abrasive on the rear window. Clip down the rear bow before you wash the top.

ok thanks. Do you know why it is so high? It has no engine in it and it stood on stands for the past 24 years

I use a soft bristle brush and SIMPLE GREEN. Then terry cloth towel. NOVUS on the rear window.

I have a 69 Convert....Gives me a heart stopping moment everytime I see something like this....love all over again!

Not so sure of the big block hood and the 350 emblem on a 327 car! Let alone the 69 STINGRAY emblem on a NON-STINGRAY 68... What happened to the cross flags on the nose....(UGH!) (Hits me as a bit tacky). But to each his own.

Soap (Dawn) and water bath and then micro towel dry. On the vinyl top, I like 303 Aerospace protectant. And I suggest being careful washing as all C3's leak in my experience.

BTW, suggest you buy a 1968 AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual) off ebay, shows the way St.Louis GM put it together and very educational, about 20 to 25$.

I know that the car is all wrong in that way. The previus owner messed it up with different emblems. It had a 427, then he changed it to a 350 therfore the bb hood with a sb engine

No engine will certainly have the front end riding higher but the rear is probably the rear spring. Being on stands for years and (assuming) the original steel spring, they’re probably held up by rust. Driving it will likely settle the rear down, as will putting on a new spring.

Back in the day, I used Ajax or Comet cleanser with a bristle brush to clean the top. Use only mild soap and water on the plastic window....and THEN use a good paste wax on the inside and outside of the window. This will help seal 'junk' from getting to it. If you don't like the waxing idea (worked for me for years and kept the window flexible and clear), put a good polymer protectant on it made for plastics/vinyl.

Very nice. As suggested soap and water on everything , then start looking for rodent damage. Are you going to through a big block back in it? Keep us posted on your progress

Simple Green works well on vinyl, you can use in diluted on your interior too.

Do you have a motor? If no, buy a crate motor!

Enjoy the project & make it yours...the BB hood looks great I think, do it up the way you want not what a certain crowd thinks you should.

Btw, most C3 owners won't tell you this as per our generally optimistic nature. But, having a small bottle (large if you live where its warm year around) of Icy-Hot (odorless variety of course) is a good idea, especially as you are new to the C3 hobby. Simply apply some lightly to your facial cheek muscles as it can help just a bit with the unavoidable after-drive pain which is caused by smiling so hard for two or three straight hours. There is no cure for it. You just have to accept it as part of the C3 hobby. And, it eventually goes away after a couple of days... until the next blue-skyed weekend.
