I need some advise with slicksand

I sprayed some slick sand on a piece I use as a test panel and it did not spray as I expected, obviously I'm doing something wrong.
I used a gun with a 2.4 tip pretty much wide open with 40 psi at the gun. sprays fine but when it dries it's leave a little rough finish that should easily be sanded out with 220. The problem is that it's clogging the paper quickly and leaves bumps of sanded primer on the panel. Any suggestions?

You left out some important details. What temperature was it sprayed at? And how long did you wait until sanding?

Temp around 75 degrees, I initially waited about 4 hours and thought maybe it hadn't dried. I try again the next day after 22 hours and same results. Instructions on evercoat site said 2 hours wait time and it also recommends 400 to 600 grit paper, but seen online that others are stating at 8 and finishing at 320. I use either 3m gold or Norton paper.

When you mixed it, did you scrap the sides of the cup and mixing stick to get everything mixed good? I like to pour it in another cup after I mix it good, and mix it again just to make sure everything is 100% mixed, might be overkill but it insures that I have a good mix.
