mid-life "opportunity"

Hi everyone from Montreal, Canada - first post here. The wealth of knowledge in this forum was key in me pulling the trigger on my recent purchase so thank you all for the contributions!

Picked up 1991 ZR1 last week with 69,000 kms (<43k miles). This thing is pretty much a time capsule other than the Corsa exhaust and some aftermarket intake that I'm not sure the origin - but I was given the original parts and service manuals. No paint chips, pretty much everything works (pop up lights, FX3 system, seat controls.... all of it). Interior is mint. The most recent owner really babied it - essentially driving it to car meets a couple times a year and that's about it. Told me his wife's back is not up to the low entry/exit anymore so decided to sell. Fortunately my wife is in good shape and green lit this purchase as a 40th bday present!!

Only a couple things I can see that need taking care of - any insight is appreciated;

- the Engine Power / valet switch works but is loose behind the dash. Before I yank you the panel could anyone tell me whether this is normally glued or screwed in to place?
- CD player made some clickety clack noises when I tried it and didn't pull a CD in. Don't know if that is common problem....
- Headliner is sagging, so will try to DIY fix that one today
- Gas struts for the rear hatch only hold the window up a few seconds before slipping down. Hoping that isn't too expensive to replace, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the car.

Here are a couple pics....

The valet switch is held on by 2 screws and the CD issue is common. The window struts are about $100 a pair I think and there is a left/right,the generic brands list one for both side. Welcome and enjoy that beautiful car!

cool - thanks guys. Hopefully the screws are just floating around back there and it's not a couple cracked mounting holes.

Re gluing the headliner is relatively easy but make sure you use a high temperature adhesive designed for automotive headliners. Regular adhesive will give way during the heat of summer in a closed car. -- Bob

Congratulations on your car!
VERY nice!

Some very good advice above, and all correct!
You will have it sorted out in no time!
Enjoy it, and remember to wind it up to 7000 at least every couple of months without fail.
However, once you do that, you will suddenly find yourself doing it once or twice every time you drive it, simply for the fun of it!

:iagree:3M SUPER trim adhesive, its worth the extra $$. On the other hand, Rock Auto has the hatch struts from $ 8 to $32 for the ACDelco. You can find them on EBAY with free shipping (I just got a pair for an 05 hood for $12 shipped - never noticed any difference in quality on struts) Congrats on the new Z!

Congrats on the car, welcome to the addiction. Be sure to look in on the ZR1NetRegistry forum as well. http://www.zr1.net/forum/index.php These two forums are your source for all things ZR-1.

Appreciate all the advice and warm welcomes.

Headliner is fixed - not the best job ever in the corners but considering all it cost me was a $14 can of spray glue it's all good.
Power switch is fixed - the metal sleeves / screw holes on the plastic mounts were broken off. Looks like no material was lost so I Gorilla Glue'd it and seems like that solved the problem

New window struts arrived today from corvettedepot.ca and hopefully I can find a second set of hands to take care of that tomorrow.

Then FINALLY a nice cruise in the hills to wind it out and take some beauty shots
