Painting metallic ----question
3 Attachment(s)
I'm painting my 95 Corvette , changing the color from Polo Green to Limerock Green. I've been working on it since September of last year and am just about to do the color. I have painted a few pieces within the last few weeks to get the feel back for painting ( it's been about 10'years since I last painted). What I'm curious about is this, and it may be a stupid question, when I paint the bumpers and the gill panels ( they will not be on the car) do they need to be oriented as they would be as installed on the car? Will the metal flake shine different if I paint them vertical while they will be installed in the horizontal? Thanks for any insight. Chad
Here's a few pics of some of the things I've painted so far ......Attachment 48302221 Headlight bezel Attachment 48302222 Fuel rail cover Attachment 48302223 Polo green on top, limerock green on bottom |
For what it is worth.
When I paint a car like yours. I mask it off in a way so when I get a coat or two of base color on the complete car....I then set the bumpers up on the car even if they are just sitting there and not shred or tear my masking paper and then shoot the final color coat to get the metallics to blend correctly. As for the lower fenders...I either have it masked in a way that allow they to stay put when I set them in their respective location and not shred my masking paper and shoot them also or hold them with one hand while blending out the color. I then pull off the bumpers and have then on stand and clear them along with the fenders. Keep in mind I have done this and know how to get thing to work so I can do it this way and would advise you test fitting it to see what possible modifications you may need to get the rear bumper to stay as needed. I do know the area at the bottom where the exhaust is can be a bit of challenge. DUB |
Thank you DUB. Great advice. Want think about it in that perspective.
