C6 Audio Replacement ???
 

A couple points. First, if you are going to replace all your speakers you will definitely need to go with an aftermarket amp. The factory amp is designed to work with the factory door woofer and 3.5" speaker and has built in crossovers specific to this setup. A good rule of thumb for a C6 is if you remove the door woofer, you need to change the amp.

Second, imo, if you just want to keep it simple and improve the highs, you can replace the door 3.5" speakers with some other aftermarket 3.5" 4ohm speakers. This will give you better highs and clear up some of the muddiness of the cheap stock speakers. You can replace the door 3.5" and the rear 5.25" speakers with aftermarket ones and keep the factory amp and door woofers. This would be the simplest and also cheapest route.

Third, if you are going to replace the factory speakers and add an amp, you will almost definitely need to add a subwoofer somewhere imo. Accomplishing a decent (worth the effort) sound system upgrade over stock without a subwoofer is extremely difficult.

the JL Amp fit into the factory Bose amp location after I used 1/4" abs plastic and traced out the Bose amp while allowing a little extra length for the JL amp. It fit nicely and I am anticipating it to be a nice solution instead of mounting in the trunk or behind a seat which would then limit seat travel.

Where is the Bose amp located? Do you know what the inputs and outputs on it are? Looking to upgrade.... Thanks, cs

The Bose amp is located in the front of the passenger footwell. You pull back the carpet to expose a fuse panel on the right and the bose amp on the left. It has 4- 9/32" screws holding it in and there are 3 plugs you have to unplug to get the amp out. I am replacing the head unit and amplifier so I am not concerned about the inputs and outputs on the amp are but you could probably figure out what they go to if you have a multi meter and a little time. The bulk of the wires would be outputs to the various speakers.

JL amp in place after tracing the Bose amp onto ABS plastic (1/4") and cutting out a bracket to fit the Bose amp location. I made the upper end of the bracket about 1" longer to accommodate the mounting tabs on the new amp. The mounting ears are the same as the Bose amp. I also cut out a window in the bracket that exposed the cover for the amplifier controls. I can get to them without unmounting the amp.

After rounds of mods...spend the money the first time and buy the best stuff you can afford. Crappy audio is the ONLY thing about my car that makes it unenjoyable.
