Anyone know where to find new weatherstripping for a coupe? Mine is dry rotten and my body shop is recommending replacement.

I hear some of the cheaper stuff is poorly made. I'm looking for a quality replacement.

Do you think your weather-stripping is dry rotted??? is it cracked and are pieces missing? If not.. have you tried to gently massage some silicone grease. ( the worst thing you can do is use a petro based grease like petroleum jelly. My car is 20 years old, has 100,000 miles plus, and the weather-stripping looks as good as the day I bought the car. its very soft and rich in black color.

ET. I have read about the silicone grease but I think it may be too late. I purchased the car several years ago in Miami and it looks as if it was kept outdoors in the sun. I have noticed a lot of the Florida C5's have rough looking molding around the windshield.

At any rate, I appreciate the advice. If I find new weatherstripping I will be using the grease.

Rob, I see Ecklars sells C5 weather stripping.. I think Marc and Vettenuts might be able to help much cheaper then Ecklars.

Thanks again Bill. I see Ecklars has the windshield weatherstripping for $742.99. It looks like they are starting to stock items previously unavailable.
At that price I would hope that it is quality material.

I am wondering if a place like safelight auto glass would have something along this line for less money. Since they install lots of windshields nation wide. I would give Marc a call at Vettenuts.

Vettenuts has always been the answer in the past to finding rare parts though I didn't see it on their web sight.
Most of the vendors I have been looking at so far want over $600.

Coupe has a lot of different weather strips. Which one do you need? Windshield? Targa? Halo? Halo is the most common that breaks down.

Sorry, I didn't realize I failed to mention that it is for the windshield.

You might try a local automotive glass shop. Many times in the act of replacing a broken windshield the original weatherstrip is destroyed during the removal. I’ve seen this happen on brand new cars not just older ones. They will likely have several sources that they use to secure replacement moldings. It’s worth a couple of phone calls anyway. Unfortunately it seems C5 moldings are made of “GOLD” based on the prices I’ve seen for quality replacements. I’ve been quoted $400 + for the pair of factory weatherstrips on the Targa Top above the door glasses. I bought a left one (aftermarket) that was pure junk, leaked both water and air like it wasn’t their. Found a good factory used one for $50 that saved my interior. Do your research is what I recommend.

Bingo. That is the part number I was looking for. It seems like a lot of GM dealers are out of stock and it may be out of production.

$531.10 is expensive but a much better deal than what I have found elsewhere. Plus it is OEM.

Yes. These are gm oem. If this site has it, gm still makes it.

STOP!! We have the windshield Weatherstripping used OEM in excellent shape for $275. Dont buy repro for more money when i have some really nice ones in stock. Give me a call 615-896-6100

It's good when a plan comes together at a reasonable price. With a Plus that we all Know Marc, so there is no issue with reproductions and poor fit .or some shaky vendor

Yes sir, I was meaning to call him. I didn't know that a used weatherstripping was an option after seeing the wear on mine.
Glad he replied. Apparently he has more in stock than what is posted on the web sight.
That shop has really grown over the years and he said he specializes in C5's

I remember when he first started his business. I selfishly miss him on the forum. We use to have enjoyable conversation before he became a Mogul. :)

Rob, Don't forget the silicone grease ♫♫ Grease is the word ♫♫

I would want to rejuvenate with silicone but be sure to clean it off completely before install. so the adhesive is not compromised with the grease.. Once installed and the adhesive is set up.. you can apply grease to the exposed area.
