Intercooler pump options
So I recently purchased an 09 ZR1 with 66k. The I/C pump stopped working. Checked the fuse, its fine. Ran power to the pump and it popped the tester. Pump is locked up.
I was told a good replacement was a water pump from a Chevy Volt. Has anyone done this? How did you wire it and mount it? TIA! |
How does one know it stopped working?

Make sure you have enough fluid. If you dont, the pump with only run for about 20 seconds and shut off

Is the pump supposed to run all the time when the key is on? Is it regulated by IAT? TIA. |
Why would you not just buy a replacement I/C pump for a ZR1?????

Thanks. I did bleed it and fill to make sure it didn't have any air bubbles. Problem was I couldn't get it to turn on to finish the process.

This is the option high hp guys go to (full bolt on or more): https://www.prospeedautosports.com/p...p29-water-pump Also available from Lingenfelter (just have to verify it's reprogrammed)A custom bracket needs to be made and new lines need to be run. Otherwise if you're stock and plan to stay that way, there's not much better than the factory replacement. Before this EMP the Camaro and Cadillac guys were using our ZR1 pumps |

Unless edited in HP Tuners, it's on a 20 or 30 second turn on delay with ignition on. Other than the delay, if car is running yes it's always on unless it catches air and turns itself off to prevent cavitation

Because they are discontinued.

When you get your replacement pump, don't throw away the old one. Send it to me. I'll rip it apart and see what failed. If they are no longer available, perhaps we can figure out how to repair/rebuild them
|
FYI, my studying of the schematic indicates the + side of the power connector is hot when ever the ignition is on. The ECM switches the ground.

Thanks! I will do that. I found a very nice compact pump on Summit that flows a little more than the ZR1 pump (6gpm) that I'm going to give a try.

Damn, GM. Discontinuing a "reasonably" important part for a 6-year old flagship product with no viable replacement (my understanding is that, even with reduced performance, the LSA pump is not a direct replacement, but somebody please correct me if I'm wrong)? If true, this is disappointing.

I see this is an older thread that got dug up. But yes there is a plug and play solution that works great.
