2019 Hot Rod Power Tour

I am seeing if anyone else is going. It starts in Charlotte this year and ends in Norwalk, OH. I am taking my 72 vert and having my brother ride shotgun. I cant wait. I added a Tremec 5 speed this year to help on the MPG and the RPM's. Packing is going to be tight. I am taking the spare tire instead of using tub for storage. Heading out on Friday, June 7.

Hey Joey-

YES- we are doing it again this year!!!

My first one was in 2005 and have been doing them ever since. AND the wife and I actually got MARRIED on the 2016 Power Tour- on stage in Gonzales LA!!!

I've met many members from the Forum in the past- feel free to shoot me an email richard454 at comcast dot net and we can swap phone numbers if you wanna met up- or need a helping hand with your car.

This year we are taking the wife's 2016 Mustang- as the Vette is a little cramped and not that comfortable- and she is having her knee replaced in a couple days!!!

We are headed up Frday morning and will stop by while in Charlotte and meet up with fellow forum member Dub and run by the brand new Mustang museum. Also corresponded with 73LS1 "Charlie"- and meet up with him in Indy.

For those not in the know- here's the stops- it's well worth the trip to a tleast check out one of the venue if you can't do the tour. Each stop is an incredible car show with several thousand cars plus the vendor's booths.
  • KICKOFF on Saturday, June 8: zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC
  • Sunday, June 9: Martinsville, VA (location TBA)
  • Monday, June 10: Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN*
  • Tuesday, June 11: Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, KY*
  • Wednesday, June 12: Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, IN

I read today that the Martinsville stop will be at the Martinsville Speedway. I might have to make a day trip from central VA.

Joe79Vette 05-15-2019 08:59 PM

I am staying in Eden, NC for the Martinsville stop. 23 days and counting.

My wife and I have down the Pour Tour a few times and its great. The Concord venue is great. If you are able to get rooms just north of the drag strip it's great for wandering around after dinner and checking out all the cars.

Does your car have a luggage rack? My 77 coupe has 1 and I made great use of it. I picked up 2 plastic Zip Loc containers with weather-tight seals. They fit on the luggage rack with room between them to access the fuel door without the need to remove them. I simply used bungee cords to hold them in place. The only time I removed them was when I was parked overnight. I stored my T-Tops inside of the car.

These are the only pictures that I have with the totes in place. They would have blocked my view using a rear view mirror on the windshield, but my car doesn't have one anyway.

No luggage rack so we are definitely packing light. I think everything is going to fit. Buying t shirts at each stop too to wear the next day.

Anyone have any tips for a Power Tour newbie? I want to come down from Cincinnati to the stop at Kentucky Speedway and possibly the next day in Indiana. How do the stops work? Do they open at a certain time or what do I need to know? Thanks for any help

The event gates open at noon. You have 2 options. Pay to be participate or it is free as a spectator. 2 different areas to park depending on which one you choose. After the Ky event, the next morning the tour leaves the speedway on a certain route to Indy. You can follow it or not. I am doing the long Hauler. Leave for Charlotte in the morning.

I just got back last night after finishing all 7 stops of the Hot Rod Power Tour. It was a blast. I went with my brother and it was a trip we will never forget. In all it was 2612 miles. The 72 never had one issue. The Tremec 5 speed was great and made the car fun to drive at highway speeds. We got 17 mpg.
Here are some pictures. My 6 year old met us on the last stop so we got pictures with mine and my brothers long Hauler signs. This should be done by every car guy at least once. We will do it again for sure.

The cool thing about the Power Tour is that you can drive just about anything. You get to mingle with the rat rods and mega dollar high end builds. I've spoke with a number of high end builders on the tour and they were totally approachable. Not in a million years can I afford a high dollar build but they were cool to talk about their builds and the parts they used.

Rescue Rogers 06-16-2019 08:57 AM

When I can afford a 5 speed, I'm going to do this. Its going to be a while, but I can't wait
