I’m in DC for it now. Did a charity ride in to raise money for the memorial wall, but not sticking around for the ceremonies to follow.

Love my brothers in blue, but drinking, cops, and emotional moments are a bit much at times.

Nice job blue

Not sure if I could handle that environment, somethings tear you up inside more than the everyday work . . . :(

Thank God for the many genuine Americans who sacrifice so much each day for all Americans.

Really? Haven't heard a peep here locally, which sucks.

It tells me the local news needs to re-assess their priorities.

I offered to buy one his Chinese food 2 item combo, but the fast food place fucked that up, and comped him that meal, messing up my jester!

Our local news covered a couple local (Nashville, TN) events.

I've attended 2.

Solemn and humbling.

That happens so often now---which is a good thing---I stop attempting that unless I'm in a legit restaurant. Coffee shops, counter service places, etc. seem to comp police all the time now, which I think is great, but makes it awkward: "I got that" ..... "umm, we already took care of it" ..... "oh, okay great" .... awkward silence. They rarely do that for fire fighters or EMS so when I see them I'll buy their coffee or whatever.

A restaurant chain here gives a 50% discount for officers. We had a new chief who called restaurant manager and told him he wanted them to discontinue that. Restaurant manager told new chief I don't tell you how to run your department, don't tell me how to run my restaurant.

That's odd. Any reason mentioned by the chief? I see no issue in showing gratitude towards the underpaid professions that risk more than the average employee (military, police, firefighters, etc.).

Probably afraid of the semantics of owing someone a favor for a service. It wouldn't even enter the mind of most people, but that's the world we live in. The chief is just trying to cover the departments ass.

Happy National Police Week! Stay safe. :flag:

I agree. What a pathetic culture we live in these days. As you said, "It wouldn't even enter the mind of most people"; normal people, that is.

The only thing that drains my life energy faster than PC bullsh*t is fake outrage. I realize there is a specific logical fallacy that covers this comment but ..... sometimes I wish it was the 1950s again.

I'm not sure but I think that was it. At any rate, I never went there anymore after one of our guys found a big wad of hair in his burger. so didn't worry about it.

Normal people, by definition, do live in the 1950s. That is, by the standards of the 1950s as we understand them to have been. No, not perfection; rather human efforts to be somewhat perfect. We try to live decent lives, operate using ethical standards, attempt to be moral, usually cooperate with family, friends, and coworkers, strive to do our best, and appreciate the USA and all it represents and how it became the best.

We also have a sense of humor that is sensitive enough to comprehend my use of the term "normal".

My post is deadly serious. I attempted to include a little levity. I'm sure that you now understand.

Not sure if you understood, it was my attempt at agreeing with you. Although normal is in the eye of the beholder, we use that definition the same way.
