Since Optima was bought out some time ago, I think batteries in general are a crap-shoot. Longevity of the same brand and model battery in the same vehicles is amazingly variable, even when driven similarly. Buy a "better" quality product and drive on! Best of luck. :yesnod: :crazy2:

I've had a lot of experience with car/truck/equipment batteries and learned best price often doesn't equal best value. The below is not the cheapest, but you can do a lot worst.

The best battery, at the best price I've ever had was Exide brand. I get them at Tractor Supply.

Not long ago I did some battery research when needing one. What I learned there are only a couple manufacturers, the largest being Johnson Controls. Most all third party battery sellers are Johnson Controls. With that I began comparing the long list of Johnson supplied batteries. Die Hard, AutoZone, Champion, Napa, WalMart, etc are all Johnson, with same/similar ratings, but with different pricing, different warranties with some. The outcome for me was the WalMart presented the best price and warranty. he other real beauty, is there are WalMarts everywhere, so the warranty actually is of value when traveling. I have had a number WalMart batteries in a number of my cars including 4 Vettes with only one problem on a 3 year old battery. I stopped in my local WalMart and 30 min later left, billed only $.02, which they waved. The most problems with batteries I have had over the years? DieHards and Delcos. That might be coincedence but I had more failures in those brands over others, but key is the warranties sucked. The Delco warranty is pretty much worthless, as replacement was only year 1, after that pro rated. When you consider hiw much mire you paid, you basically pay for your own warranty, when you compare to others. In the end you will find the batteries almost identical, yet price and warranty, and service locations can be the difference!

I would buy the best battery available, not the cheapest.

The current crop of batteries at Walmart are made by Exide. The warrantee is 3 years (free replacement), and then 2 years pro-rated credit towards a new one.

Yes, Walmart changed to Exide a little while ago.

Yep, toured the Johnson Controls battery plant in our town. Had over 20 labels at the end of the production line. Where a battery is supplied to a particular shore also depends on where the plant is located, ie shipping costs.

They do make a number of different types. I bought a C7 AGM battery that was in Sears, AutoZone and Advanced Auto under different names. All had the configuration that fits a C7, i.e. recessed posts and a top that fits the large positive terminal power board.

They all had the same 760 CCA (cold cranking amps) where the standard OEM battery has 565 CCA. That is 35% more! AGM's do last longer.

Get the one that is "On Sale and has the best warranty for the price." Asked the Johnson Controls plant manager conducting our tour about warranty. Their warranty to the retailer is the same. It can vary as it's used like insurance! Some charge more for the battery and give a better warranty for marketing reasons!

Exide does "make" a good battery, I purchased/sold/warrantied thousands of them. Exide, Delco and Deka were my primary brands I sold through my auto parts stores.

Thing to keep in mind is that even though there's only a handfull of battery manufacturers, they typically manufacture to the particular retail chain's specifications. So an Exide manufactured private-brand labeled battery isn't necessarily going to be the same battery as one with an Exide label on it.

speed4tu 05-14-2019 12:23 PM

They are all basically the same. Come from one of about 4 manufacutrers. As for the good, better, best battery all you're paying for there is more warranty. Not necessarily a "better" battery. I'm certain someone is gonna chime in and say there is noticable differences just because one costs more, but thats ok. lol

Thank you all. Got the answer I was looking for. And I learned.

Maybe times have changed. The Delco Gold shown in Post #3 is warranted in full for 42 months, no pro ration.

Retailers are always changing manufacturers, accepting bids regularly and there's more battery manufacturers than just Johnson and Exide. East Penn Manufacturing Co. for example (Deka Batteries) owns/operates the largest battery manufacturing facility in the world.
As far as the link, you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

 There are a few tricks in making the C7 battery replace easier. This is a PDF of my install:http://netwelding.com/Battery_Issues.pdf
