install 1990 engine into 1976 corvette
Hi, I am installing a 1990 corvette engine L98 into my 1976 corvette. The 76 had a 14 flywheel and a push clutch.The 1990 has a 11 inch flywheeel and
a hydraulic pull clutch. does anyone know if there is a 11 inch push clutch and pressure plate available to install in the 1990 flywheel which will allow me to keep the original fork and bell housing and rod system . Thanks for your help. |
There're TWO threads in this C3 tech forum
We already Know 76 flywheel does Not fit 90 crankshaft. ? What size is 76 flywheel? 153 Teeth or 168 Teeth? ? Do you have 90 flywheel? ? What size is 90 flywheel? 153 Teeth or 168 Teeth? ? Will you use 76 bellhousing or 90 bellhousing? |
the 76 has 168 teeth.
the 90 has 153.. i have the flywheel for the 90. it takes a 11 inch clutch i would like to use the 76 bellhousing with the push fork if i were to get a 90 bellhousing then i would have to go to a hydraulic clutch. that is what i am trying to avoid. also the 90 bellhousing will not except my trany which is a 5 speed tremic. |
does your tremec have 21 spline input shaft?
some small (153T) flywheels have 2 or 3 bolt patterns ... ... have you tried your 76 disc & pressure plate (cover) on the smaller 90 flywheel yet? |
FWIW ... unless you have an adjustable aftermarket starter ... you have to change starters when switching between 153T-168T.
|
the tremic is a 26 spline.
the 76 flywheel is 14 inches. the 90 is only 11.5 the disc is 11. i have the starter that goes to the 90 |
So get a 168 tooth 87-up flywheel. Same bell, clutch and starter. Except early starter field housings need a notch cut to clear dipstick. Now start shopping for electric fuel pumps.

How about this one for 153T
