Tire Clearence Question w/Van Steel 2" Offsets

I ordered a set of Van Steel 2" Off Sets from Eck. for my 76 and had a tire clearance question fo those of you running 18". I will be going 18" x 8 front and 18" x 10 w/5.5 backspacing on the rear. What tire size are yall running in the rear on your 10's? Want to get the most meat I can tucked under the back.

Rocket, I saw you were going to be installing Hooker sidepipes on your 76, how difficult was it getting the headers in?

RocketNerd 05-21-2019 09:56 AM

I installed them in a day, no issues with fitting them into the car, no dinging needed for clearance, took a little work from both the top and the bottom, so if you have access to a lift, all the easier.

I run 275/40R18 on an 18x9.5" wheel and don't have any issues with rubbing or interference.
I know that I've seen a couple cars with 285, but I think they may have been a shorter profile 285/35R18.

285/40r18s on 18x9 rub on the frame with 5.25 bs in turns, are you prepared to mod your frame to prevent this for your 18x10 with 5.5bs? I tried to lower my car with stock arms and the linger bolts hit the wheels with like 5 in bs are you also prepared to mod your spring if needed?

Planning on changing spring to one thats narrower or coils this winter before i lower it. Just want to finish up my paint n decide on some rims n enjoy driving it till winter. Very impressed with Van Steel's product, hell of a deal at the price.

I've spent a lot of time measuring and researching I also have Van Steel off sets and it looks like 285/40/18 is about the biggest you can go. Let us know what you come up with all my measurements have been with body off and 5.5 backspace looks good or maybe even 6". I had them install longer studs so I could go with a little more back space possibly and use spacers to get exactly where I want to be. You definitely can't go to tall I tried the 275/40/20s off my Chevelle 5,25 offset and they hit the frame where it bulges out.

Think I'm going to go with the 285/40/18 you mentioned, having trouble finding the rims I want in 18 x 10 so will probably have to go with 18 x 9.5 with 5.25 bs. Thinking I'm going with Boyd Chrome Junkyard Dogs or B/G Old Schools, I like how the spokes come to a point running down the middle. Which rims did you decide on?

295/30R18s on 18x10 with ~5.5" backspace are my track wheels. I have some slightly taller 295/35R18s to go on when these are worn out. Global West trailing arms (they previously fit with factory arms with relocated handbrake cable), rebent rear sway bar and shortened rear spring.

I have 275/40-18 on my 18x10s....i have done 285/40-18 on my 18x10.5 c5z wheels and they rubbed and barely stuck out of the fenderwell. I didn't wanna chance buying new wheels and tires and not having them fit.

Good luck.

I'm considering Rocket Racing attack wheels I believe you can get them in 18 x 10 with 6" backspacing. I measured my space between tire and Frame and it appeared I could get a little more backspace than 5.5 and is since I had Van steel build my trailing arms with 1/2' x 3" racing studs I could always use spacers to get exactly where I want to be. the most backspace I've seen anyone run so far is 5.75. My body is still off the frame so with body on I may see something different. I'm also running QA1 adjustable on all four corners and steeroids rack and pinion steering. Look forward to seeing pics of yours with the new tires and wheels.
