BJ Auction 72 LT-1 Convertible With A/C

Was I dreaming or did I really see a Red 72 LT-1 Convertible with A/C sell for $180,000.00?

Looked on the Palm Beach results don't see it

Lot #802 - This 1972 Corvette LT1 A/C convertible is powered by its original, matching-numbers LT1 350ci engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and is equipped with factory air conditioning. This car was originally delivered to Herb Hallman Chevrolet in Reno, NV. It has its intact A.I.R. System and is highly optioned from the factory with power steering, power brakes, power windows, deluxe black leather interior, hardtop with a black vinyl soft-top, tilt and telescopic steering, AM/FM radio and RWL tires. Finished in Mille Miglia Red, this vehicle is in good overall condition with a rust-free frame and bird cage. It has received one repaint.

I would not believe it in a hundred years. No mention of mileage, not original paint. There is nothing special about this car to make it a 200k plus buy.

I couldn't believe it either./.. I figured it had to have been a ZR1, but it's not!

Some folks have way too much play money.

I think it was a classic example of two people with a lot of money that both wanted the same car. From what I have heard from people that actually saw the car it was not all that nice.

pwsusi 05-14-2019 08:25 PM

that is a ton of money, but it is a rare car, no? not many LT-1 convertibles, not many with A/C....this has both, plus highly optioned and desirable color. that being said i would have guessed 100k or maybe a little more...not 200

it looks my '70 LT-1 convertible...same color (well, monza red..close enough), same vinyl hardtop, deluxe interior, and similar options. No A/C of course on the '70 but heck, i'll settle for half of what he got LOL

Watched it sell. Was NOT that nice of a Corvette. It did have a repaint & interior was not all that nice. Don't know what the deal was. ED Foss's 70 LT-1 with less than 10,000 MI only brought a little over half that much. Same colors & vinyl hard top.

Don't think race cars have AC.

When this sold that high I sent a link to my insurance underwriter and asked if we could up the agreed valuation on my 71 LT-1 and even highlighted the other desirable options the auction car had, vert, AC etc. They said get back to us when it becomes a trend and not a one-off. I think I'll be waiting a while to see that value again..
