Mystery ground cable

I found this cable bolted the tranny cross member on the pass side of a '69 coupe. It was attached by the small screw shown in the picture and the other end with the larger hole was hanging free. It's flat braided copper. Does anyone know why this ground strap was there and if it is supposed to be for a '69? My '71 does not have this strap nor does it have a hole in the frame for it's attachment. Could it have been meant for the now missing underbody splash shield?

I found this hanging on the pass side of the transmission cross member.

It's a ground strap intended to reduce radio interference. One side attached to the crossmember, and the other attached to one of the nuts on the exhaust clamp at the crossmember. If I recall correctly, there should be two, one connected to the hanger on each exhaust pipe. 1970 was the last year they were used. If you have an assembly manual, they should be shown in the radio installation section.

Thank you for the info. It did have another strap on the other side too so the explanation makes sense. The car has a 30 years newer after market radio so I don't need the grounds, and it's now wearing side pipes so there is no exhaust hanger to which it could be clamped.

I remember a similar question was raised a long time ago here . Back then Alan71 made a comment on the rarity of those straps and the value to a NCRS restorer.
