Eco Mode (cylinder deactivation) not working after tune
So I had my 14 Z51 M7 tuned after putting a SC on it. The tuner has confirmed cylinder deactivation is still on. He uses HP Tuners. I would like V4 mode to still work, has anyone had this issues before and had it resolved?
EDIT: The tuner got in touch with HP tuners and will try another flash of the ECM tomorrow to see if that works. |
Sounds like you just saved $200 on not having to buy the Range AFM disabler ;)

Because most feel it is the AFM that destroys the TC. Most of us try and deactivate it for that reason.

You have 4 cylinders running at speed without combustion, and 4 others pushing them and the drivetrain. Does not sound like a healthy recipe for an engine.

I am not in the know enough to explain it but there are numerous threads about it and what it does to the tourque converter. This is not only a problem with Corvette but also a big problem in the trucks. A close friend of mine had his engine rebuilt due to the a AFM valve failure. Again, there are more threads and discussion on this than you can count. Search for AFM issues or transmission issues and you’ll find them. There’s also a rather large sticky thread on A8 issues and in there you’ll see talk of AFM being a large contributor to it. There are some really smart people on this forum so maybe one will chime in or link some of the threads. Worth the read for sure.

Yes, plenty of threads on the AFM and the problems associated with it. Maybe the fact that the AFM is deactivated is a good thing.

I am on my second 2014 and both have had the V4 / AFM mode disabled, My current is a manual and will never see ECO mode...

still doesn’t make sense, to me at least, why the heck you’d intentionally put a corvette into 4 cylinder mode. Plus I only noticed 1-2 mpg gain with afm active and most of the lt1 engine failures can be traced back to the afm lifters. If you can negate a potential issue by simply not putting a M7 car into eco.... why wouldn’t you? |

Maybe the parasitic loss from driving the supercharger is preventing the computer from seeing a low load situation. Just a shot in the dark.

When I had my tuned I asked the tuner if he could adjust when v4 came on. He recommended to completely turn it off and mentioned that it's a camshaft destroyer. I can only guess from the constant lifter depressurizing/pressurizing. Anyway, I still get about 28mpg highway and 24 combined with it and over 600rwhp. I don't miss it one bit.

V4 only hits you in the ECO mode. You are not gaining that much but it allowed GM to make the cut on the mileage requirements. Were it me, I'd forget about it.

I don't miss my v4 after supercharger install, 24 mpg on the highway is fine with me and 610 whp
