BUY: 2014 vs 2015?
I'm ready to pull plug & make a C7 purchase. Will be looking for 7spd manual convertible. Strictly speaking of the car itself (not mileage, eqpt, cosmetics, price), are the two years essentially the same? There are so many lo miles out there & 2014s are much cheaper, maybe that is way to go? While Z51 & 3Lt would be nice, my driving doesn't dictate as a necessity.
Thx |
If you're going manual, get as new as possible. The 2014s have a different head unit and drive modes than the others as well as axles.
A 2016 would be my choice for Android Auto / Carplay and the lighter panels but it's really not much different. Find the color and options you like in good condition. You can't go wrong with any of them. |
Thank you JD. That's exactly the type of info I'm looking for. I was already inclinind to go w '15 & have found some beauties, even have a line on 13k mi '16 2Lt.
 |
Get the newest and lowest mile manual car that fits your budget. Miles and use on a manual clutch just means you are that much closer to needing a clutch service and replacement.
|
Agreed that there is no bad choice. If you find one with all the options and colors you want, pursue it. As mentioned I would get the newest, lowest mileage car your budget allows. Not sure how important it is to you, but I would recommend the 2LT package.

If you're buying a 2014, no trim level has front cameras.
I'd go with the newest I could find Z51, 3LT, WITH MSRC. "Trust me, you want the MagRide." . |
Coming from a 2014 - the ONLY thing I wish my Z51 / 3LT / M7 had was front cameras (just not available in this year). Its just that added insurance, nothing will happen while parking. If the budget allows, try to shoot for a 16. If front cameras dont matter to you, then I agree the newest is always better... I do have to mention, that many on this forum have agreed that the 2014 model year was among the most bullet-proof / trouble free of other years...
Best of luck and post pictures when you pick her up!!! |
I completely understand your dilemma as I just went through it myself.
Ended up getting a 14 convertible in LRG w/ Kalahari interior, 3LT, M7 & supercharged! Picked it up Friday & have already put ~500 miles on it! As others have said, don’t “settle” for anything. Simply too many Vettes out there for sale. I’ll guarantee YOURS is as well! |
Congrats on your purchase! Nice colors. I'm following the advice to buy as late a model, heavily optioned, lowest miles that budget will allow. Sooo...found a 2015 vert, Laguna Blue/gray int/gray top, manual, Z51/3LT. No Mag :( . Oh yeah, 8400mi. $77k Msrp. Inspector said grab it. This car floats my boat. 460hp is as much hp as I'll ever need or want, I know they're fast.
Found it very difficult to find right combo of manual, vert w/right colors (never black !), eqpt & lo miles. Will post pics when it gets here. Thx all:cheers: |
bought a 14 last year and it has been great. I would get a 15 only if the miles and price are about the same. If I had to choose between a 14 with 5k miles and a 15 with 15k miles, I would get the 14 (amusing price is about the same). If you want yellow, take note, they changed the yellow color in 2016...and not in a good way if you ask me.

I think front cameras got added in 2LT and 3LT trims in 2016? Myself, I can’t park without the front cameras. They were a “must have” for me since I have trouble judging how far the hood sticks out.
|
Yes, front cams started 2016 in addition to the power rear hatch pulldown.
|
‘14 & ‘15 M7s are essentially the same. ‘16 added:

It is amazing to me how the hunt for the M7 cars has gone into high gear with the news of the A8 issues & the demise of the manual trans in the Vette. I see in the future that M7 Vette will be very hard to find & if there is one around the price will be high.

If '14 vs '15 with both having NPP, I personally would go with the '15 since it has more options for controlling the "engine sound management"/NPP.

So this is what I ended up with: 2015 Vert Z51 3LT M7. From what I'm told & discovered in course of search, these colors with this eqpt are pretty rare. Oh yeah, did I say 8k mi? Just came in from OH a few days ago. Now just trying to decipher the electronics.

I'd go with the newest I could find Z51, 3LT, WITH MSRC. "Trust me, you want the MagRide." . They are an easy aftermarket add on by a competent shop. Also, altho the 14 does not have Android Auto or the Apple thing, it does have Blue Tooth and you can play all your tunes from your phone with it. |

(I LOVE mine, BTW!):D https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...692c2f28c8.jpg M7, C7 convertibles, are very special Corvettes! Does it have MagRide? (i.e. MSRC, Magnetic Selective Ride Control)? |
Thx, yeah already getting street creds. No, does not hav MagRide, unfortunately. But I considered myself lucky to find this color/eqpt combo w 8k mi. Prob 75% out there are coupes & most verts are A8s. I'm old school, I consider the fun factor w the M7. Think the machined wheels were an added bonus. Not lookin back.

In Nov. 2017, when I happened upon my new 2017 C7/M7/convertible/MSRC/Z51-look Black wheels/spoiler/FE2/3LT/Jet Black interior in Houston, Texas at a Chev. dealer, I bought it on the spot. -20% off MSRP. Done deal too!
