Tire Sensors High Pressure Tire Reading
 

Hello All,

Just picked this 2005, 42K Corvette up back in November and drove it only during the cold months here in Atlanta. Yesterday it was 90 degrees and after driving up the highway a few minutes and for the first time 3 tires had High Tire Pressure readings from the sensors. 2 front and 1 back. This from the information board on the dash.
But all three were 44PSI on 50 max pressure tires. I can see if only one through out a bad read but 3 of 4 at one time. Any help greatly appreciated.

Look at your tire sticker on the driver's side door ....

Your tire pressure should be set at 30 PSI. You have way too much pressure in those tires.

Get out a good tire pressure gauge and set them all at 30 PSI.

At 30psi, you’re about to have a much nicer ride. You’ll like it!

If you had 35psi in 30 degree weather you could very likely be at 45 psi when driven in 90 degree weather

You will get that message when tire pressure is 42 psi or higher.You are also ruining your tires running pressure that high and as every one has said you will enjoy the ride a lot more if set to the correct 30 psi

the maximum tire pressure for the tire is only to be used when carrying loads. You'll never do that. the door placard that shows cold pressure is specifically for the car you drive, each car has its own desired pressure for best overall ride and performance as delivered from the factory. Read the owners manual, or get one to read. As previous posts state, you're ruining a set of expensive tires for no reason other than lack of knowledge, not a slam on you but its true, a lack of knowledge is the real issue, educate yourself, there is much to learn about a corvette that is unique to the marque, as well as general maintenance info anyone, even a shop owner that owns and works on corvettes frequently can use to advantage. Yes, I mean me.

Thanks Tom for responding. I failed to mention that I have aftermarket wheels and tires on the car. Fronts are 19" 275's 50psimax air and Backs are 20" 295's 50psi. So 3 of the 4 wheels are at 42psi when HOT and the warning came on HIGH TIRE PRESSURE for 3 of 4 tires at the same time driving about 20 miles. A coincidence all sensors went bad? Or something else. Hard to describe but may need a trip to Firestone for this one. Thanks again!

There is nothing wrong with your sensors.

You should be at 30 psi COLD.

OP, why do you think your tires need to be so highly pressurized?

thanks, I got the message on cold tire pressure and set back to 30psi

heat will always increase air pressure in a vessel, in this case tires. if its a worry, nitrogen is more stable than air, the temperature/ pressure thing. We breathe almost 70 percent nitrogen every day. So, it works, but is it worth it? Not for my z06 it isn't, I can add or remove air as I see fit quite easily.

OK So I just had a high tire pressure reading while driving on the PCH three weeks ago. Stopped and checked the tire immediately with a gauge and tire was at 34 PSI. Now I must ask could it possibly be the sensor? Shut car off, restarted engine, drove on. No faulty readings since with another 5,000 miles on the car.

Did you check all 4 tires? Sometime the sensor positions are swapped on the car.

No. The tire pressures had been set at 31 lb at the dealership four days earlier during a service visit for oil and filter change.
