Best exhaust for the c4
I own a 1990 c4 I was looking to upgrade in the exhaust department. Any suggestions?

This is relevant to my interests also. Doing a tranny job now and want to put in a new exhaust also. |
LT1 exhaust manifolds

I'm really happy with my Borla catback. It did require some custom silencers to kill the drone though. Sounds really good after headers.

I would google C4 exhaust and watch some of the youtube videos that pop up. They all sound a little different. The most cost-effective way to make the car louder is to do muffler eliminators and if you like a certain exhaust tip you can buy them directly from the manufacturer. If cost is no object long tube headers from a well-known manufacturer, high flow cat and a cat back. |
Real easy Corsa no drone looks great.

Goal and more important, BUDGET? Budget dictates goal.

My budget is around 1,000. But I'd like for it to sound but also very aggressive.

Check out Stainless Works

Long tube headers really help.
Just be careful if you drive a lot or long trips as some systems will drone on the highway. Padding the inside of the spare tire carrier does help quiet the inside of the car. |
Been running Borla S-type cat back on my 90 for five years and still love them. They sound deep.and mean with minimal drone and no drone at highway speeds.

I beg to disagree if it is anything like the Borla Stingers. Hard to have a conversation at highway speeds. Around town, forget it.

If you want loud and cheap, Allen chambered exhaust system.
|
Cherry Bomb should work fine....
|
Once you do this it will cost you.
Even OBX will cost you ans the clamps etc. I doubt you can do headers and exhasut these days for less than 1200. The American headers are like 1200. I tried hedmans on my '90 and got some old TPIS in the end. If I bought again and all things were the same I'd go OBX. |
With that budget I would start with headers, it will help you gain real power AND improve the overall sound of just about any catback...You can always do an OBX catback (budget)
The Best: Subjective, some like classical music, some like classic rock etc....Probably doesn't fall in the listed price range but I would go with a B&B exhaust. Keep an eye in the for sale section and eBay, maybe you'll luck out on a used B&B system. I also have run Borla and liked that too, probably easier to find since its far more common. |
I prefer Borla, sound is great, and with little metal polish can do wonders.
