Another C8 render

I had some time the other day, so I thought I'd take the latest mule photos and take a couple of guesses what's under there....I haven't been a GM body designer since 1973, so please excuse the crude work...

I like it, but

Unfortunately the real deal does not appear to have individual fender peaks in front. Instead, lines go briefly up and over the wheel well, then disappear into the window sill. But I really HOPE you're right! :)

Vettrocious 05-30-2019 12:32 AM

You may be correct... or this pic may be correct...:D

I believe this render is on the right track, but the openings are larger.

Remember, the body bends inward prior to the side ducts, so the opening is rather massive without the scoop having to stick out so far.

Also, under the drivers right hand, you will see a vented material. The "top vent" I believe is still mostly on the side/vertical plane of the rear quarter panel, not the horizontal/top side of the rear quarter panel as you have in the renders above.

There are 2 vents on each side on the rear quarter, the main one behind the door, and then one up above the rear wheel... I believe.

IronV 05-30-2019 12:38 AM

Could be a real fender peak!!!

Thank you!!!!!

And let that be a lesson to our renderers!!!!!!:)

I have one more drawing (not done yet), that shows the scoop depressions longer (extending into the door) and also deeper into the body. There is a view of the edge of the door which, though not very clear, tends to suggest that the door edge may have a localized depression exactly where the top of my scoop would intersect it.

IronV 05-30-2019 12:51 AM

Lay it on us!

Tomorrow...

For a while I also thought that "vented" cloth was a vent, but now I think it may be a fuel filler, but with no door on it yet....only reason for this thought is that there doesn't seem to be on one the other side of the car...

bbbvettes.com 05-30-2019 01:09 AM

I agree, I don't believe the extra vent will be on the base car, it will be on the higher models, which we are not being shown yet

Vettro, I wonder if GM has been giving us hints all along with these design details.

Self explanatory as I see it. Localized depression? Possibly if the door scoop area is not very thick thus needing that depression for a hand to grab under. If that is true the door scoop area would stick out even less IMO. :flag:

I talked about this in the below CF thread, post# 115 on 10/31/2018. Personally, I like a cleaner look without it but I does conform to past Corvette side vents.

I sure hope the C8 doesn’t start picking up its styling cues from the Equinox, but obviously someone at styling likes that look. So, yes it’s possible that some variant of that theme is on the C8, but it’s also possible that the fake panels are designed to lead us there.

By by the way, I’m not suggesting my interpretation is correct, just showing what else could easily be under there. The basic proportions will allow the car to be a lot of things, but they certainly don’t lock it into “ugly”.

Chaz has the Equinox school covered, no need to redo his nice work😊

chazcron 05-30-2019 07:09 AM

You are right, Vettrocious, I’ve known about that crease coming down from the mirror for a while now, but the way I’ve modeled my door already has prevented me from being able to integrate that nice little sweepdown. Plus, I have lots of other things to do before completely re-working the top of my door. That picture is the best proof of its existence

dmann277 05-30-2019 07:24 AM

It's tomorrow already, lets see the new drawing ;)

My

This is the best looking/most realistic render I’ve seen. I love the gills you incorporated. Looking forward to your next render. Can you tell us what cars you helped design when at GM?

chazcron 05-30-2019 08:15 AM

Hey Mike, I'm thrilled someone else is serious about renders, even if we disagree about shape. Feel free to adapt any renders I have done. Starting with the camo shots is a pretty severe handicap visually.

The bottom one is by far the best looking rending to date.

I hope the rounded fender and 1/4 panel are close to the actual design as opposed to the squared off render by Chaz.

I also think the door and rear intake vent are far better than any previous render.

Sure hope this is closer tHan what we seen from Chaz.

I also hope the hood does not have all those extreme body line show in Chaz renders. They are way to busy looking and make the front look ridiculous in my opinion.

I hape GM has done a masterful job of throwing everyone off with the camo and we end up with a clean design like the last rendering posted here
