Looking for engine
Hi goodpeople. I am looking for a engine for my 1968 Corvette. I can not use the old one since it is a 2 bolt. I don’t want an engine with a crazy amount of horespower, somewhere around 300 would be nice. I am looking for a complete engine with carb. So far I have found this https://blueprintengines.com/product...or-bp35511ctc1 it doesn’t have to high compression ratio, which i want. Do you have any other recomandations or is this the perfect engine? Your answer is much appreciated :)

?? Absolutely nothing wrong with a 2-bolt block. Sure if you are buying new why not, but there are a lot of 350s making way north of 300hp with a 2-bolt. 300hp is easy to get with readily available stock parts, iron or alum heads, a mild cam, headers, and alum intake will do it. Your properly tuned Qjet is good for quite a bit more. The Blueprint engine looks okay, but you can do better for less money doing it yourself.

If your 2-bolt block is still serviceable, use it again. Now, if you were going for over 400hp, the 4-bolt would be better.

for another 1100.00 you can get a 375hp roller from tristar ( a co-worker has this motor in a 78 malibu and he's very happy with it) no oil additives and probably more bang for the buck imo. Gl and have fun, tell us what you end up with.

What is the old motor, a 327 or 350. Is it running, seized, burning oil??

The ceankshaft bearings are broken, and if i fix it up, it will be broken in about seven years again. I don’t wat that. A mechanic, which have known my father for 40 tears told me that. Anyhow, the service costs on the old block is going to be the same as buying a new engine. It is not an original engine anyway
That being said, if you are set on a 4 bolt, contact your local machine shop, they may have the block you want and could build it to those specs for pretty cheap, or if their labor is high, atleast get you the parts for cheap. My local guy afford me parts at his cost just to get the labor. It sounded like a good deal to me. If you are going for a 300 hp build, still go with a forged crank and pistons with a 10:1 compression and the best aluminum heads you can buy. The heads will help prevent detonation and if you want some more power in the future its just a cam change away. And as a side note, todays oil choices will kill a motor way before horsepower by wiping out a cam, so make sure you get a high zddp oil if you stay with a flat tappet cam. If you are building and have the money for the roller cam, go that route. |
my friend has a nice 350 L48 out of a 79 ,I think it has 61000 miles on it ,I think he wants $375 for it

I once new a Norwegian girl when I live in Alaska, talk about some beautiful women........
But back on subject and to save you some money If your machinist insists on 4 bolts have him add 4 bolt splayed blocks. Theres a lot of ways to go that can still save you some money over the shipping of an engine or engine block plus import taxes . You can use your 2 bolt block and use ARP studs and it will be fine as long as you drive it like a normal person.. Read a few of these links comments, they talk about ARP studs adding support, splyed blocks added to a 2 bolt to make it a 4 bolt. And you have a good block to start with.... https://answers.yahoo.com/question/i...onAHUTOfh9pTKj http://nastyz28.com/threads/2-bolt-m...-mains.249588/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...erence.172898/ |

No it's Not perfect ... because it's already bored 0.040" over, it's already nearly worn out as +40 is at practical limit for most later blocks. They don't sell 50 over sbc pistons. And It has crappy heads And a flat tappet cam.

You don't need four bolt mains if all you want is 300 hp.
