fuel gauge
My fuel gauge on my 1990 convertible doesn't register on the screen. It does when the ignition is on but not when you start it. What could be wrong? Thanks

LS swap...

I'm talking about my fuel gauge, not the engine
|
Do the fuel bars and the estimated range number match up?

"Ya get more bees with honey", and you'll get better responses here if you're a little more patient with everyone replying...even if you think someone is being a little sarcastic.

Want answers not honey. How's that for sarcasm

Hopefully someone with this type of knowledge will chime in...

Hope so. Thanks

probably need a little more info. What kind of display are you getting? By that I mean does it show full all the time or empty? When you turn the ignition on do you mean it works on the light test and shows full for a second or does it actually show your fuel level? My guess would be if the light test works its probably the float switch in the tank. Does your range and mpg work?

It shows empty all the time. It shows full on the light test for a second then shows empty when you start it. The range shows LOW. Not sure about mpg

Is the float switch an easy fix?
|
Honestly I havent done it, mines still good since 85 lol But I have changed the fuel pump and that wasnt bad at all. Just open the gas door, pry the rubber boot out by hand. Unhook the fuel lines and the probably 12 bolts that hold it in and the whole unit just pulls out with the float. Think it took maybe an hour and a half to change the pump, doing it for the first time, so probably similar for the float I would guess. Dont forget to buy a new gasket, i did and had to pull it out again after ordering a new one. A new fuel pump filter wouldnt be a bad idea either while your there, they are only a couple bucks, heck if it was me Id swap the pump at the same time just so I dint have to worry about it if it hasnt been done in awhile.

I may give it a try. Thanks for the info!

Are the sending unit and fuel pump separate or one piece?
