Will the frunk have a key?

So with no hatchback, will the frunk have a key?

No one knows.

My totally baseless guess is they'll keep the same setup as the C7, but add a manual frunk release inside the cabin. Assuming they put the battery up there. If it's in the back, then there's no reason to have the manual release for the front.

My 30-year-old Ferrari has a pull lever inside the cabin, plus a back up pull ring should the lever become inoperable... same with the rear deck. And, the battery is in the front, taking up minimal space. If I need extra luggage capacity I can always take out my full-sized spare and gain a lot of room... yes, I'm aware that, like my previous two Corvettes, or is that three now? - the C8 will have ZP tires.....

Had to deal with a dead battery in our Cayman that has an electric frunk release. Was a big hassle to get open, but not impossible. Hopefully GM has a manual cable/lever inside with a button release on the key fob.

careful saying you own a Cayman in here, Mike. I was told that's a hairdresser's car on this forum.

It will be called a "Freaky".

RapidC84B 06-05-2019 02:09 PM

Car will have a frunk and a trunk behind the motor so it will have a rear hatch. The FOB confirms this. Battery is most likely front center by brake fluid reservoir accessed via frunk. I'm guessing one end will have a key hole for a manual key to then gain access to the car via a pull cable. Where all that is located is TBD. My guess would be key access in rear like the C7. Then pull cable to open door, then a manual frunk release like the hood pop in the C7.

We're really scrapping bottom on possible thread subjects, and still 6 more weeks to go.

Oh yeah, I've heard that more than a few times
Those folks just don't know the fun they're missing being so narrow minded.

^ that describes most of the "it ain't a Corvette so it sux" comments on the forum. I get it, it's a Corvette forum, but it's also simple minded to have that attitude.

Push the key fob button or pull the manual emergency release.

To be fair I've read similar sentiments on other car forums. We are fortunate to live at a time when there are many excellent car choices.

Neither my 718 Cayman (GASP) or 911 had a key for the frunk, hopefully Chevrolet will take a cue from Porsche and incorporate the hands-free system that Porsche offers. If you purchase the "Keyless entry and drive" option, you can hold your hand briefly over the crest on the hood, and it will open, as long as you have the fob in your pocket. No need to open the car and pull the lever.

His question is more stemming from a dead battery situation I believe.

Vegas Sam 06-06-2019 12:46 PM

Understood, but there were follow up questions. Thanks for your input.

Yep and the challenge of getting into a Porsche when the battery is dead. The procedure is outlined in the owner's manual, but a key would simplify the process.

I have it on good authority that there will be leather straps with buckles holding it closed.
