Any C4 rust issues?
 

With C4 prices so reasonable, I may consider one instead of a C3. Is there any area prone to rust?

Below the battery and under the trim for the windows.

The C4 is vastly superior to all earlier Corvettes in terms of corrosion resistance. Generally speaking, structural rust on the C4 is quite rare. As noted above, do check under the battery for evidence of acid damage. Side terminal batteries can leak acid at the terminal penetrations in the case.

The top of the windshield frame is a spot. Mine had rust at both corners under the weatherstripping and some along the whole length.

internal door structure, especially around the door mirror mount is another place where rust pokes it's ugly head. the only other places I've notice any (minor-surface) rust is below the battery, and where the frame assembly comes thru the body at the rear fender well. from purely a rust standpoint, anyway you look at it, the C4 is far superior to the C3

my 91 is mint clean on the underside, there is not a spot of rust anywhere that i have seen. i just figured they were all like that

for the most part, C4's are not affected by rust, however there are exceptions, and those are few and far between, it's not the rust you can see, but the rust you can't see. :rock:

I had an 84 years ago that was a California car from day one and the windshield frame had some rust on the top,it would of rusted out if I didn’t catch it in time.

It will depend on where the car is from and spent its life. If its from the north east where salt is used on the roads and the car was driven in the weather, even rain in that area because the humidity is so high, then you might find that anything not aluminum or plastic will be rusty. Particularly the steel fasteners on the underside of the car. The aluminum suspension parts can get corroded as well from salty and high humidity conditions over the years. My first 89 was from New York and I spent allot of time getting the underside and all the fasteners cleaned up from all the rust.

I used to drive mine around year here in the nordic where we get rain and snow, roads are salted during winters etc. No rust on the frame, suspension etc. But every bolt is a bitch to open as they are rusted or oxidized solid. Basically I replace all bolts and nuts which were difficut to open and use anti seize to avoid the problem in the future. Don't drive during winter anymore though so probably there will be no more trouble like this again.

Suspension and other aluminum parts are oxidized too but that is more of a appearance problem. Also ground connections and other electric connections open to elements oxidze in these conditions.
